Warning about Rich's Hunting Adventures

Just a warning to my fellow hunters - I booked a hunt in Craig Colorado in January of this year with Rich Botta of Rich's Hunting Adventures out of New York. I gave him a $2000.00 deposit. He cashed my check. After ten months with no response to e-mails, calls, or texts, two weeks before the hunt, he tells me he has no hunts in Craig. Says I can hunt in Mexico! No offer made to hunt in the U.S. as a replacement. I asked for my deposit back, he texted “lol”. He has kept my deposit.

Lessons Learned! 

Do your research as to the background of the outfitter. 
Get references with photos.
Get a contract for his services.

Hi Silverdollar what sled did not tell you is that he was so happy with my services the first year he booked again the second year!!! I do have hunts for him to go on in the US but he does not want to go he booked with someone else!!!
I have been in business over 12years and booked over 1000 hunts and had 1000's of happy clients and returning clients how much bad stuff do you read about me on the internet?? not much problem is when clients are happy they dont tell anyone or go on websites and talk about it. once in awhile you will have a client like this gentleman and i do have hunts in Colorado,montana,canada,Utah and many more area's for mule deer thanks Rich
 
It's simple he paid you for a hunt,  you accepted his money for that hunt and now you can't provide that hunt. 

How can you possibly think this guy is being difficult for wanting his money back for a hunt you could not provide. 

Him being happy with your service last year, booking with another outfitter in lieu of your replacement hunt, and you having 1000's of happy customers is irrelevant.

Give the guy his money back and move on before he takes you to court and you have that attached to your name along with these negative posts.  Win or loose the court case it would still be out there to be foundby potential clients.  Negative publicity even by the small minority can cost you more than his $2000 deposit. IMHO

Seems this isn't your first unhappy customer though.

Well let's do the math Rich.  You said, "I have been in business over 12 years and booked over 1000 hunts and had 1000's of happy clients..."    :D
To me, 1000's means at least 2000 minimum to classify yourself as 1000's.  I take these 2000(happy clients) and divide it by 12 years.  I get roughly 167 happy customers per year.  I take that amount(167) times the $2000 deposit that you didn't return to your client.  This gives me $333,333 for these hunts, just in deposits.    :p    WOW, and this isn't even the full costs for your hunts. AND, YOU CAN'T REFUND A CLIENT HIS MONEY BECAUSE YOU CANNOT DELIVER!!!      :mad:  You're not looking straight-up to me down here.  :-[
 
way to put it silver dollar, i agree if a booking agent or outfitter cannot provide the hunt that was booked for the client and tags are available there should be a refund for sure.
 
not to highjack the thread but, there's a lot of unethical guides/outfitters out there.  you put money into the equation and it's bound to corrupt.


my experience was at 14 years old.  I lucked out and drew a tag for an area just outside yellowstone park (back in the heyday before the wolf reintroduction).  dad booked a guide and off we went.  4 days in the saddle in some of the coldest weather i can ever remember...good trip.  on day 3, i shot a 375-400 class bull.  it was a long shot and we had snow waist deep on the horses so, it was going to take a little while to get across to the next ridge where he had layed down under a big boulder. 


before we could even gather the horses, a competing guide (who had watched from the next ridge above him) rode down to my elk, shot him in the forehead with a pistol, threw a rope on him, and drug him up to the opposite treeline.  steel was flashing and they had him packed & drug out in less than 20 minutes.



 
find where you can turn him in....ask the game department where he lives and in CO. maybe they will cut him off in CO for what he did....and would deserve it!
 
My thinking is you should return this gentleman's money. He booked a trip with you and tried  to get info from you all year with no response.  Then 2 week before his hunt you tell him he has to go somewhere different.  I don't blame him for booking with another outfitter.  How did you expect him to change his travel plans in 2 weeks or even rely on you being there if he does show up where he should? 
 
I just read this dialogue. As a business owner I'm amazed that this outfitter did not refund the money. It appears like a scam and theft ring.  No matter whos right or wrong the perception of events would surely deter me from ever booking a trip with this outfitter.
 
I have to say that I'm amazed at what I have been reading here. I don't consider myself a professional hunter, but I've been on a couple of hunts in my life and I have to say, that the one I booked at Rich's Hunting Adventures is right there in the top. From booking to the actual hunt, everything went perfect and I have to say that the experience I had is worth every dollar.

 
Hi Im Rich Botta, Hunter Sled Reynolds booked a hunt with me. Let me explian to you what is really going on Sled and a group of 6 of his friends booked a trip with me in 2012 and in craig colorado and everyone tagged out. So he wanted to book a hunt in 2013 in Colorado again but with a different guide. So I recommended an outfitter in Trinidad Colorado and he said he didn’t want to go there, then I mentioned sand hills Nebraska,Montana,Utahan,Alberta,Saskatchewan Canada and Mexico and he said no to all of these. He wanted a hunt in craig clorado because he found out a friend was going with a different outfitter and just wanted his money back. We do not give refunds if we have the hunt you booked for. Well a few days later he started posting lies about me ( saying I don not have hunts for mule deer in the US) which I do many as mentioned above!! I also have outfiitters that will testify that we did have openings this fall for mule deer you may call them if you like I even had a hunt for him in Colorado in Trinidad. Sled went to all the forums and posted lies about me. In December. I sent sled a messege stating that I would refund him entirely the $2000 if he would stop the games and take all the posts down as they are not true. He did not respond instead he posted more lies about me !!! THE OFFER IS STILL THERE SLED IF YOU TAKE DOWNTHE LIES YOU WROTE ABOUT ME ON ALL THE FORUMS I WILL SEND YOU A CHECK FOR $2000 OVERNIGHT!!! also what everyone does not realize here is that sled is a wealthy man he works in hollywood 2k is nothing for him he just wants to be a pain he actually told me he hired a kid to go online and talk bad about me all over the internet . Sled does not even know what he wrote!!!! and for everyone taking his side without evening know the whole story you should know your facts first and BTW when booking with me you speak with the outfitter before booking a hunt anyeways the outfitter wants to see if you a good match for him and if he is a match for you.. And for people saying why use a booking agent??? well what you do not know is all the time and money we spend going on horrible trips!!! getting scammed by outfitters losing over 20K ayear just so our clients can be happy and have a great hunt. We have been in business for over 12 years and as you see there are not many bad reviews online only the same 2 guys over and over again!!!!FUNNY THINGS ABOUT HAPPY CLIENTS THEY NEVER CALL YOU BACK AFTER A HUNT THE ONLY PEOPLE YOU HEAR FROM ARE THE UNHAPPY ONES :). I WILL START GETTING MY OLD CLIENTS AND NEW CLIENTS TO START WRITING FORUMS ABOUT ME ON HOW GREAT MY HUNTS ARE I DESERVE THAT WITH ALL THE WORK I PUT IN. FEEL FREE TO TALK TO MY OUTFITTERS THEY WILL TESTIFY FOR ME , I SEND THEM MANY HAPPY HUNTERS. please feel free inbox me with questions or concerns im really disappointed how this turned out and would like to resolve this issue but its a 2way st here. Sled went on 30+sites and lied on all them be a man take everything down and I will send back your deposit!!!!

this is not the first time you heard about me?? i have that one group in Colorado from this year that cancelled a hunt 2 weeks before and  a guy from up Ny that went went on a trespass hunt and was expecting a fully guided hunt and i have been in business for 12 years soooo what does that tell you???
