What are you doing opening morning?

Are you sitting in a tree stand in an area you have picked out?
Are you staging up and chasing bugles?
How about just staging up and doing cold call set ups?
Spot and stalks?

What will be your opening morning plan of attack?

\"MY\" Opening morning I will try the spot and stalk. I will set up high and glass my first evening I pack in. If I don\'t see something that evening to make a plan on or first light. I will cover some ground doing cold calling setups.

You have to find elk to hunt them.

Most likely doing some cold calling setups on the way to each trail camera. But as all of us know plans can change in a hurry in the Elk woods.

In 2011 I didn\'t have a chance to hunt, 2012 injured, 2013 hunted one day archery, killed 7x6, 2014 hunted one day rifle killed 7x7, 2015 didn\'t have a chance to hunt. This year it looks like I can hunt 1 day during opening weekend. I don\'t have any illusions about killing anything, but at least I\'ll get a day in to try.

It sounds like when you are able to make day one then you are very successful!
Good luck. :upthumb:

Opening Day for me will be 9/3 ... and I\'ll be basing plans on the wind that morning ... wind from the west, and I\'ll head to the north of camp, where animals will be coming uphill from feeding all night.

Two of us will be set up 50 yards or more apart, and we\'ll be doing some cow calling.

I\'m hunting a new area and I have never set foot on it. I have scoured maps both paper and computer and I have a few spots picked out. Opening morning I will park the truck and leave with enough supplies for three days. I\'ll keep moving until I find elk, doing a little location bugling and cow calling.

I have two opening mornings this year, one for bow and one for rifle. For bow, a lot depends on what happens between now and then. I won\'t get to hunt the first couple of weeks, but some of our group will be so intel will be important. For rifle, it will depend on what glassing shows the day prior to the season. If I have a good idea where the elk are, I will be in those spots. If I haven\'t found elk yet, I will be taking a long hike into some remote areas I have been studying.

LOl, I consider that a blessing from above, there have been many multi day hunts in the past I never saw a thing:) Time in the woods may be the single biggest success factor so long as one is in elk country.

Still undecided... my partner will be sitting in the stands at the Bronco game so my only option is to go solo for the opener which is not a big deal. Really don\'t want to sit it out, however, being 8/27 means you have an hour or so in the morning and another on the back end depending on the weather etc.

Still hard to beat being in the elk woods this time of year!

Planning on packing in on the 3rd so that may be opening day this year.
