to quote ICCY..\"the dead elk are not gonna carry themselves\" haha

getting in shape for me is a two pronged attack. exercise. and DIET. my days of eating and drinking whatever i want are long gone. now, if i let my body \"reach equilibrium\", what i see in a mirror is very much pear-shaped.

irony alert!! i found in order to hunt meat effectively, i have to eat much less of it. i am pretty much vegetarian on weekdays.

i\'m NOT dieting, but have adjusted my lifestyle. i drink on occasion, but not a lot. i eat way more greens and berries..BEANs. oh, i am getting sick of beans.

you?

My diet is boring. I eat either oatmeal and fruit or whole grain toast with crunchy peanut butter and local honey for breakfast. Mid-morning snack is a hard boiled egg or nuts and fruit. Lunch is leftovers from dinner the night before (today was grilled pork chop, green beans, and half corn on the cob). My mid afternoon snack is usually triscuits/hummus, or like today, fruit (rasberries, strawberries, apples, bananas, blueberries). Dinners are always well thought out so I have good left overs tomorrow. Dessert is usually a couple beers.

By eating healthy 90+% of the time I don\'t feel guilty eating junk or drinking beer once in a while.

I do like beer though...mmmmmmm beeeer.....[/homer]

i have let myself go on diet. i eat pretty much whatever i want. i do work out pretty hard, but, cant outwork a bad diet.

Cliff,

I am very strict with my diet right now to reach my elk and hunting season goals.
Right now I am trying to cut down on some body fat (not much)

So my MACRO nutrients are:
2330 calories which is broken down even more into:
78 grams of fat
291 grams of carbs
120 grams of protein

With this strict number, I am able to have a standard for what my daily intake is. That paired with my workouts give me a healthy weight loss of about .5lbs a week.

Once I hit my target number and body % that I want, then I will boost the numbers so my MACROS are at a maintenance level.

Everything is very clean though.
Lots of veggies, oats (oatmeal), hard boiled eggs, elk/venison, whole wheat pastas and rice, etc etc etc.

I love a clean and happy diet because it makes me happy :D

I don\'t ever \'diet\' anymore simply because unless you change your lifestyle, whatever weight you lose will come right back. Luckily, my wife likes to cook pretty healthy. So dinners are mainly healthy as are my leftover lunches. I am in the camp that I typically eat what I want, but I believe in controlling portions more than anything. If I hit McDonald\'s randomly, I don\'t get a double quarter pounder or supersize the meal. That type of thing has kept me at the same weight for the last several years. I know I could lose weight immediately, but that would require cutting out my intake of wine, which isn\'t negotiable with three little ones running around the house right now :D

You\'re absolutely right about it being a lifestyle Derek!

There are so many times that I just want to pig out and let lose lol....
I just cry a little on the inside and drink more water to be less full haha

Yeah, I used to be able to have that lifestyle and spend time thinking about being fit, but times change and so do priorities. Oh well, wouldn\'t change anything if I could :D

Hahaha, I know that story! My only suggestion is to enjoy each other\'s company for awhile first. Do some traveling and anything else you really want to do, because truthfully it\'ll be 18 years or more until you are truly alone again, and that is with only having one kid! But I can tell you that there is nothing like being a father either. :upthumb: And if you have kids early, you will be an empty-nester earlier too...which means more time to hunt!
