Wondering if anyone is going to try something new on your next elk hunt?
New broadheads?
New arrows?
New boots?
New pack?

I think I might try for a new pack this coming year.
The one I carried around was great for the daily hunt, but if it came to actually packing an animal out, it wouldn\'t do so well.

I\'d like to find a nice pack with intentions of only using it to pack out the animal, not as a day pack.

Not sure just yet ... but I have some ideas.

1. A new, larger tipi is one thought ... which would allow me to set up a spike camp. That really opens up some different strategies.

2. Treestands ... there will be more of them. I think I\'ll be putting at least one in an area closer to home for weekend quick hunts. I\'ve got two ideas on where to put them, and scouting those will be a priority as soon as the snow melts.

3. I have a new compact Ruger in .308 (was my father\'s) ... that needs to have a load worked-up and some new glass on top. It\'ll be used for deer, pronghorn, and cow elk next year.

4. There\'ll be more than just one hunter in camp next year, perhaps as many as three ... and that will change things a lot ... like I think we\'ll have more meat to pack!

I\'d love a new pack but since I\'m gonna get a new bow that\'ll have to wait. Definietly gonna try a decoy this year and probably set a tree stand or two for my good friend\'s father to sit.

Finally getting back to elk hunting.
Hunting new area.
New style of hunting (staying mobile...no deep horse camp).
Having back-up plan C, D, E, and F.
New boots.

I may invest in another lightweight treestand, since stand hunting paid off for me last Season. I have a great trail in mind

Also looking to get a low-to-the-ground cot for my Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 tent, in the hopes that I can get more sleep. Other than that, I\'m going to keep doing what I\'ve been doing...it\'s working. :upthumb:

Slip System to try more ambush hunting.

Tenzing TZ 1215W Womens Hunting Day Pack if it fits me. The Badlands Kali Women\'s pack\'s shoulder straps cut into my neck. I have narrow shoulders and a very short torso. I have been using a Gregory XS Woman\'s day pack which fits great, but it\'s noisy.

Anyone have experience with Tenzing packs?

I may finally buy a backup bow. Of course, the backup bow may become my primary bow if I like it more than my current bow.

Thank you Jeff!

I may need help choosing the right cover for a semi open pine timber. There were 2 that appear to be appropriate. I can send you a picture of the area where I intend to use it. I already have a Montana Elk Rump decoy. Looking for a Timber slip cover where it would be difficult to make a natural blind.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Dark Timber (shown) and Open Country Camo covers are both effective in those semi-open settings. Send me the pic whenever you get a chance and I\'ll give you my gut recommendation! Hope you have a great Holiday weekend as well! :upthumb:

Jeff,

Take a look at the Therm-A-Rest Luxurylite...I use one whenever I can...packs up fairly small and light.
Expensive and takes some getting used to setting up and taking down, but not all that bad once you get the hang of it.
Combined with a good sleeping matt...can?t beat it.

Thanks Scot, I\'ll definitely check it out. :upthumb:

already got a new pack for next year. slumberjack 4500. always wanted to bivy so I might start putting gear together for that. And better clothing.

I am going to try a somewhat different style for my hunt this year: spot and stalk. I have never really done it before, but while doing some thinking after this years trip, I think it fits my style of hunting the best. Trying to spend a bunch of time pouring over google earth and topos finding potential locations to \'spot\' from.
