What is your move....

It\'s the last day of your elk hunt and you\'ve been putting in all of your efforts.
You get into your honey hole, it\'s after sun up, and you see movement....

These three boys start walking in...

So, what is your next move?
Are you picking a specific bull or are you shooting the tail end bull?
Are you letting them pass and stalking them or are you taking the shot now?

I would love to know what you guys would do.

We\'ll Troy from GCHC was probably calling them in and I was an actual shooter for a change. I\'ll shoot the first bull, the rest will run by Swedes tree stand, stopping long enough to smell the urine released from above. Then Mr. Erickson shoots the second bull. The third bull runs by Brad as he awakes from his mid morning nap and he bags and tags it. One problem, no bull for Troy! Sorry buddy, you\'re eating tag soup! :D

Serious note, if they were coming in......let them come and take a 1/4 away shot at the last bull. Not a peep from my calls.

I think I am doing the same thing John.

I would be nervous as can be though depending on how close they come to me. Holding out for that final one and hoping they don\'t see me or smell me....

I\'d take the last one because they would be past me and not looking in my direction. Waiting for the last one will give me the least likely chance of them spotting the draw. Maybe a squeak on my reed to stop them but that just depends on how fast they were moving.

My 2-cents!

I like John\'s plan real well. I just hope he has a sharp knife and is well rested. We have a lot of work ahead.

Holy crap! That\'s Nebraska?! I would have to go with John\'s plan. Unfortunately, I really like that second bull. I think most likely you would have to \"settle\" for the third bull. One other option you might have is if they are staying on a predictable path and they will be in front of you soon, draw as soon as you can (assuming you can) and be ready to hold until the bull of your choice walks in front of you.

I am with Andy on liking the second bull. I to would like for them to pass by before drawing. If the distance is good you could still take the second one if you wanted to. For me personally they are all bigger that any I have shot so any one would work for me. :D

With my luck, I would call to stop the one of my choice at just the right time and they would all wheel and charge me in a rut crazed frenzy and stomp me into the ground. :problem:

I would have been drawn already, these guys are traveling and they will be 10 yards from me in seconds, When I saw them, how good my cover is also a huge factor, doesn\'t look like wind is blowing at all so I doubt they would pass by without smelling me, especially if this is my last day.

Not much info here. Do I have cover? I\'d have been drawn already more than likely and the first one to stop would get it in the shirt pocket. Close range frontals are quickly becoming my favorite shot. All the \"good stuff\" is up front so I\'m taking the first killing shot I can, no waiting. Assuming I\'m standing in the middle of a field without cover, there is little chance they will simply stroll right by.

Will,

I said you\'re in your honey hole because that would be different for everybody. Swede would be in a tree, Pete would be still hunting around, John would either have called them in or have a call team set up, etc. I just wanted to know what people would do in their own settings.

So play your ideal scenario and roll with it.
It seems a lot of people have been very successful with that frontal shot. That could give you the opportunity to pick which bull you prefer instead of just waiting for the first one to step by or last.

For me I would probably be in a tree or a natural ground blind.
If I was in a tree I would have been frozen from the time I saw them because it looks like they were coming down a hill towards my area, which could make them at eye level. I would wait for the right timing and shoot for a quartering away shot.

If I was in a natural ground blind, mine would be more like your scenario. I\'d be drawn and be shooting for the heart.

My question for you guys is, who is the biggest of them?

I don\'t have a honey hole. Can someone give me one? :shh:
I like the last one with with the extra points.

Yes!

Any one of those bulls is a shooter in my book. The first bull is probably smaller, but has the kickers, which makes him hella cool!

Natural ground blind supplemented with SLIP System with a decoy cover (usually the way I roll in the mornings). First one that gets in a shootable spot gets a nervous bark, and a XX75 in the chest!

Dang, I didn\'t notice the 3rds on that first bull. Those things are daggers......toads in single file!

Do you think these are OTC bulls? I\'m guessing they are fenced and hand feed. Anyone got 10k to spend?

I really don\'t have $10,000 change laying around. That may be part of the reason I hang out here so much. That said I have spend far more and do not have a bull near as large as any of the three.

\"My question for you guys is, who is the biggest of them?\"

The second or third is the biggest but I bet the second is the biggest of the three. He has a ton of mass and as best as I can tell he is 8x7. The third bull looks like he has more beam length but look at the position of his head. He has his nose down so he is showing his full beam length. The second has his nose up so his beam length doesn\'t look as long but he still looks close. They are all better than 350 but I bet the second goes more like 380+.
