What next?

You\'re back in the timber glassing a meadow and see this bull working his way towards you.
He\'s about 120 yards out and heading towards some cows that are about 250 yards ahead of him.

He\'s moving slow, but that is his direction. You don\'t have much cover between you, but there is a tree that is up ahead that would put you 50 yards from the bull if he continues on in that direction.

Or you could book it a little more and cut between the cows and him and hope he comes in to you.
The wind is good for you now and behind that tree 50 yards away.

If you try to get between the cows and bull, the cows will smell you.....

So my question for you... what next?

Are we running to that tree?
Are we getting between them?
Are we setting up and calling to him?
Call with a decoy?
Do we have a rifle and are we shooting from here at this angle?

Your move...

Rifle, boom. With a bow, I would be getting down to that tree as fast as possible and re-assess at that time. If I get a good shot around 50 yards, great. But I sure wouldn\'t want to blow the cows out of there and make the bull realize something is up. He has no idea I am there right now and I intend to do my best to keep it that way.

I\'m with Derek on this one. Rifle I\'m shooting.

Bow I am going to try and get to the tree without being detected. If I can\'t get any closer than 50 yards I can make the shot at that range. But I will only take it if he is not moving.

I think I\'ll wait until September! Looks like he is still in velvet! :wtf: :haha:

 Sometimes the bull didn\'t get the notice that he was supposed to rub it off before September. Or he was just too young and dumb like I was on my very first hunt when I shot him.

I\'m not shooting at all since the only time I would see this situation is in my dreams.... :D  :D

Hmmm...sounds like low odds you will (bowkill) this bull given the situation and wind direction.

One thing I always wanted to try, was to pop the Slip Decoy, throw it up as a \"shield\"...and run straight at him, making a racket with the diaphragm call intermittently, and keeping that tree in between us as he moves so he couldn\'t get a clear view of me.

Could actually work...Crazier things have happened

Remember Murphy\'s Law....................... :D :D

What happens when he decides to charge that other elk that\'s charging him...  Might need that tree you have between you for something else... :upthumb: :upthumb:
