What\'s Everyone Up To?

It\'s kind of that slow time of year...what\'s everyone up to? I was actually able to sneak out and play some golf the other day. Other than that, just working on the bow, building some arrows, and anxiously awaiting the snow melt in the mountains so I can start doing some scouting!

Right now I\'m headed to meet up with Deertick at my buddy\'s shop.
We gonna install an air assist shock system in his truck

Then I gotta skin some dogs

Still just rumblin\'-stumblin\'-bumblin\' around the house and the front yard.... :downthumb: :downthumb:

I got cabin fever in a bad way and so far no way to break it...

Not a lot. My son and his wife and the grandkids are here for a birthday.

Worked on a wood box call I bought in Missouri when I was a teenager. Never has sounded good to me. My uncles have the same call and love it. Might have to send it Tim and see if he can get it sounding good for me.

Think I\'m going to go fishing this afternoon. Only 7 more days till the walleye season close\'s till May.

Started taking private archery lessons. I will be tweaking stuff. I am keeping an open mind...starting over.

Studying my Arrow Ballistics. Messing with my bow sight to see if I can get it to work for longer distances.

Drooling over new bows...researching bows.

Reviewing my gear that is either damaged or isn\'t living up to my expectations.

Drooling over my wish list items and researching those items:
  • new car camping tent.[/*:m:3hcr08rd]
  • possible new day pack.[/*:m:3hcr08rd]
  • firstlite first ever women\'s pants (yeah, pants that may fit).[/*:m:3hcr08rd]
  • mosquito netting for my hammock It will be another bad year for mosquitoes.[/*:m:3hcr08rd][/list:u:3hcr08rd]
I have been dreaming of my first camping trip in 2016. With the high snow levels, it may be East of the Continental Divide in May.

Researching new larger indoor target options...may buy a BullDog Target for blind bale practice in my basement.

    Yesterday, hit the outdoor range.

This morning, washed the SUV because of the muddy dirt road to outdoor range.

House projects...need these done to play in Spring, Summer & Fall.

Started taxes this weekend. May finish them next weekend.

Later today, meeting up with another BTO member.

On Friday morning, I saw my first ever bobcat in the wild...in front of my house. Looked like a male following a female. I was like a little kid in a candy store. I always find it thrilling to see an animal in the wild that I had never seen before. Perhaps I will see kittens in May or June.

Yes, I am getting cabin fever, however, hitting the outdoor range each week helps.

Starting to pack for a 120+ day trip courtesy of Uncle Sam. Better now than in August when I would miss elk season.

Thank you for your service Alan. Where are you off to? Hopefully somewhere with decent internet service so you can check in from time to time

Brad, are you going to sell those? If so, what kind of money are you getting for them?

Derek

Thanks everyone for your support. Going to a all to familiar location. But the perks is they have decent internet so on my down time I will be on here a lot more. Especially once draw results come out. Again thanks for everyone\'s support but there are so many that sacrifice way more than I do.

Alan,
Thank you for your service. Dream of elk hunting, your hunting grounds, and of course, the songs of September...bugling. I know you will hear them in September.

Wow! So where do you sell them? Anything special about how you have to skin them? Do you have to clean them as well, i.e. blood stains?

Derek

Finished skinning and rinsing them awhile ago.
Next step is to let them drip dry, flesh hide and then sew up any bullets holes.

Then put on a stretcher - hair side in - for a day or two to let the skin tighten up.
Rub a little salt around the ears so that cartilage dries out nice too.

Then take off stretcher and turn hair side out and comb out fur, removing any burrs or foreign materials.

Let completely slow dry in cool dark place.

I probably have another 4-5 hours of work yet to do.
Ill have about an hour into each pelt to get ready to sell.

I have sold my fur directly to NAFA. They pay pretty good even after commission.
But next week, I see there is a fur buyer coming thru town.
I will take them to him and see what he will give, but typically they like to under-cut the price quite a bit.

I have been doing this for a few decades, and know how everything operates :)

BTW
The best trick ever about pelting fur:
Have a garbage bag or tarp and a can of RAID for the way home....
Spray the dogs down and wrap them in plastic

Those jumping fleas will be dead when you go to skin them

Got the new air suspension on my Dodge today ... with Cnelk\'s work.

Forums like this are great ... I\'ve got definite \"holes\" in my skill-set (some of those holes could hold an aircraft carrier!) but with these forums, I\'ve met some great people who really help out.

Thanks again, Brad.

Just going threw my summer fishing tackle...ordering what I\'m running low on...getting the boat ready.

moving to an apartment..then starting the joyous (being sarcastic here) process of finding a house to buy (then move AGAIN into). should properly ruin my entire summer.
