What would you do?

Last weekend I was doing some shopping with my 9 year old daughter. As we got back to the truck I put her in, loaded the groceries and went to return the cart. As I turned around from the cart-return there was a guy walking up toward my truck, on the other side from where I was. My first thought was, \"that\'s weird\", but figured he was just cutting through vehicles because he forgot which isle he had parked. Then, I saw my truck rock as if the door had been opened, and I heard my daughter scream...

In this situation, what would you do? Realize that this all happened within seconds.

I\'ll tell my side of the story in a bit.

I would do this.
I\'ll let this do the talking if necessary.

Good answer but I was in nike sport shorts as I was heading to a lacrosse practice. My CCW was locked under my truck\'s seat.

Nike shoes are made for running. Full sprint time. Scary. Up and over the truck if need be

The second I heard the scream I would have kicked into an offensive mode and would have been sprinting towards the truck.

I would have given a quick cautious look to make sure he wasn\'t just investigating the situation and making sure my daughter was ok and not left alone.

If he was up to no good then he\'d be on the ground.

I watched my wife open the door of an suv next to me one day while I was sitting In a similar colored suv...she wasn\'t paying attention and the look on her face was priceless when she looked up and saw an Asian gentleman sitting in the driver\'s seat. I guess I\'m not sure who\'s face was more priceless! She screamed, apologized, and sheepishly exited the vehicle and got into my suv as I tried not to pass out from laughter.

Like many of you, I carry almost always, but I\'d be hesitant to pull unless I was ready to use it. That being said somebody would have some explaining to do and the adrenaline rush would make me superman.

great thinking usc. my first instinct would be to pull and run over there. but, running over there first and figuring out what is going on is the thing to do,

I\'m too old for that kind of situation but if it was my granddaughter....... The other guy would have a \"come to Jesus moment\" before a 9mm 124 grain hollow point stopped all his actions... Maybe more than one.... I\'ve always said, unlike when I was a law enforcement officer, if it ever comes out of my pocket in sell defense, it\'s going to go off and not just be displayed... Like I said I\'m too old to fight with anyone now... :mg: :mg: :mg:

By the way I don\'t wear sport shorts... All my have pockets...

Without a weapon, I\'d be in his face -- fast. With one, he\'d be answering questions quickly.

I forgot I NOW have another weapon... :D :D

I could beat him about the head and shoulders with my portable oxygen cylinder... But I\'m sure it would be considered a deadly weapon itself...

Well, holy hell, when it gets busy it gets BUSY!

Wasn\'t trying to be a drama queen with this. I literally am losing my mind with everything that has been going on.

So, my lame-assed conclusion was that as the knucklehead approached my truck and opened the door I covered 20 yards in about 1.5 seconds, grabbed the guy and threw him on the ground. I had him in a pretty good choke hold and was about to really apply some pressure when he said, \"your daughter dropped her watch\".

All I could hear was my daughter crying and I didn\'t see a watch anywhere on the ground. I didn\'t know if I should let go, or put the guy out when my daughter yelled, \"My watch is gone!\".

Well, I had given her this watch for Easter so it was pretty special to her (there\'s was a back story here but it\'s boring...). Anyway, I let the guy go and scrambled to my feet. He immediately pulled out his phone and called 911. I jumped into my truck and pulled across the parking lot and called the police as well. They came and found me and I told my side of the story, he told his. Apparently one of the pins on her watch had fallen out already and the watch fell off her wrist in the parking lot. This guy followed us and was trying to give it back. Why he thought it was a good idea to open the truck door is BEYOND me! The police talked both of us down and we agreed to not press charges.

Had I not been going to a lacrosse practice and wearing gym shorts, I\'d have been carrying. I am VERY thankful it didn\'t end any worse.

Wow, crazy story! Glad it all worked out okay. I can\'t blame you for having that reaction either, I\'m sure many of us would have done the same thing!
