When it\'s not a mounter.....

I think every animal is a trophy and it will always be in the eye of the beholder. Everything that I kill will go on my walls.

My question is, what do you do with the smaller things?

For example, I just shot this spike elk. I want to use Rocky Mountain Head Hunters, but I don\'t think this was something big enough for me to send off.

So with that being said, what do you guys do and what should I do?

Do you think if I boil the skull down and bleach it, that it would look nice?

First elk? I\'d send it Rocky Mountain Head Hunters. Spikes look cool.

You could do it yourself, but you\'ll realize that you would\'ve paid Matt to do it be the time you\'re done, and he\'ll do a better job, too!

You make a very good point. It the first so it\'s special.....

I will have to give him a call!

I think matt is still using beetles and those things clean way better then boiling and scrapping. Matt did an antelope for me once and i would so use his services again over doing it myself. A great guy and does a great job.

He\'ll mark some off since you\'re a member here ... just cut all the meat off the cheeks and remove the mandible (if you don\'t want it) and cut the eyes out ... he\'ll take it from there.

Trophies are not about the size of the critter but the size of the memory!

First congrats on the bull. Dan I would for sure send it off, I have done a few of them myself by boiling, THEY ARE A LOT OF WORK AND TIME. I will not do another one.

Amen, brother. I personally think Matt is a little crazy. :wtf:

I sent him an email! I hope to hear back from him soon.

I think it\'ll look nice with a wood plaque behind it!

dan, my bull last year was to small to mount, an i did it anyway. it looks silly next to some of the trophy bulls an i woulndt have one that size done again, but, it was my first elk an a diy hunt that i had waited 42 years to do. in my mind its as good as a big un. so do whatever you want with it an enjoy. no shame in being proud of an accomplishment, you did well

Dan
I will tell Matt to look for your email as he is sitting in our camp this week.
Spikes make great looking euros!

I also know many guys like to have the spikes to make knife handles.
But do that for your 2nd spike elk!!!

One (1) is only a number, and the smallest number in the total elk you\'ll shoot in a lifetime of hunting. If you must spend money on mounting an elk. At least make it worth it.

Just my opinion.

Like you said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I do all of my own euro mounts. I have fun doing it and it is pretty darn easy! I\'m sure that you get a better mount outsourcing but I feel it is a good thing to know how to do and I get more satisfaction with the fact I did the work myself.
