Where do you camp?

We have camped up in the Shrine Pass area quite a few times. It is a quick trip from Denver and really beautiful. It is located off I-70 just west of Copper Mountain and is accessed by using the \'Rest Area\' exit. The area can get pretty crowded on weekends, but if you get a few miles in off of I-70, you can escape the traffic pretty easy. There are a couple of great spots down on Turkey Creek that we have used in the past for camp spots that provide great seclusion. You can then return back towards I-70 and fish the Black Lakes, which have some decent trout fishing.

Where have some of you escaped to when taking the family or friends camping?

I tend to camp the same place I set up base camp for elk hunting.
Lots of streams to fish, some ATV trails.
I can be sure the elk Im gonna shoot stays near :)

I like your reasoning Brad! I just wish my current spot was as close to home as yours. Traveling 5+ hours for a weekend getaway isn\'t very easy...

We really like camping up by Deep lake on the flat tops.

Access is pretty good, good fishing, plenty of fresh potable water (two springs nearby), and plenty of camping spots.

About three and a half hours from Denver.

I enjoy camping where elk camp is ... but, to be honest, this year we\'re going to spend our summer camping times trying to find some new spots to camp.

I just like new country. If I camp in the same place a few times, no matter how \"perfect\" otherwise, I\'m bored.

So, this year ... we\'ll venture into Colorado a bit, and then out to the Wind River Range and go in near Pinedale for a week.

To me, it\'s all about EXPLORING.

I\'m a KID like that!

Mostly we camp in our elk camp spot. That way I can scout areas nearby and fish some of the lakes and streams. There is hardly ever anyone else in the area and that is a big plus. Last summer I spent way to much time camping around Tarryall Reservoir scouting for elk before turning the tags back in. However once the season started my son and I both tagged bulls with only about 9 hours in the field, in our old OTC area. That is the upside of knowing your area.

American we used to camp at Deep lake all the time when I was younger. My dad loved taking us there I have a lots of good memories of that lake. We do a lot of boating over the summer we go to spots like Minatare NE, Grey Rock Wy, Jackson lake east of Greeley and of corse horsetooth in ft collins. If we want to go waste some lead we head to Red feather for the weekend.
