These were called Remington \'Accelerators\'
Its a 22 caliber, 55gr bullet sabotted into a 30-06 cartridge
They were available in 30-30, 308 & 30-06 - now obsolete

Due to the Democrat anti-gun pressure, as no rifling marks are on the 22 cal projectile that is fired from the firearm, Remington yielded to govt pressure and stopped making the 308 & 30-06 as they are fired in military semi-auto and fully auto rifles
See link above for more info
Like WW mentioned, they were FAST!
Accurate? Meh...
Many said the composite sabot material left residue in the barrel.
I spent Sunday cleaning all of my firearms and doing an inventory of ammo.
Lots of loose rounds floating around this place ... rifle, rimfire, and shotgun rounds. (The shotgun rounds are the worst ... I rarely bird hunt anymore, but if anything with feathers attacks the house, they better bring a whole division of bird-soldiers. I can hold out a long time.)
Loose rimfires? Well, those are easy.
Or so I thought ... it turns out that I need to do some work on both my old Winchester Model 290 semi-auto rifle and my Ruger Mark III Target pistol prior to firing them ... parts for both are in the mail. ($2.00 for one, $6.00 for the other, so I\'m not breaking the bank.)
Rifle rounds are tough ... loose rounds lack a trust-able \"identity\" ... for shooting at longer range or at game. I guess they\'ll become \"brass-makers\"\' but then you have the problem of ... mixed-brass.
I try to keep my stuff pretty organized for that same reason John...loose rounds laying around drive me nuts! Then you add in mixed brass, etc and my head starts to spin. I am trying to increase my inventory while at the same time trying to keep it organized. No easy task right there!
