Anyone heading out for a rifle elk hunt anytime soon? I'll be heading out on Thursday for first rifle in Colorado. We've got seven guys in camp this year, so hopefully we'll be punching some tags!

Wow, 7 guys in camp. Guess it makes chores and pack out easier. Was looking at second season in Colorado, but my bride bought the PBR package at a RMEF banquet, so I'll be in Vegas with some friends.

Good luck to you and your 'team' Derek!

Trying to figure out the relationship with RMEF and Pabst Blue Ribbon!!  :-D

Leaving North Dakota for New Mexico on Thursday. I can't wait to get back in the mountains. Best of luck to everyone!

I only archery hunt but I was invited to join a guy for a backpack rifle hunt last weekend. He had a cow tag in a spot that should have been a slam-dunk. Unfortunately, I had other commitments that I couldn't get out of and couldn't join him. I thought it would be fun for the experience and I'd have enjoyed helping him pack out meat.

Turned out, after hiking 3 miles into his spot there were upwards of 6 CPW officers in the area looking for a poacher. He said they were scattered all over the mountain and were NOT being quiet.

The only elk he saw was a spike.

Between the 30 MPH constant winds and the CPW officers all over the area he was pretty bummed.

It's unfortunate that he wasn't able to get into elk, but it's good to hear that CPW officers were out after that guy. I hope they caught him!

So the time has finally come, will be heading up to the high country tomorrow and season starts on Wednesday. Main objective is put meat in the freezer. Got cow and  bull tags in my pocket, box of my special loads for the smoke pole. Hardest part is setting up my wall tent and that's not that hard.  Should be good, migration is in full swing into the area we hunt. Full moon has passed and it is looking like we  might even get some weather on Friday.  ;-)

Awesome Randy, best of luck! Keep us posted on how it goes.

Well that was a tough hunt. Dry, dusty, windy for the first two days. Rain, sleet, snow on Friday. Saturday turned up no animals nor did Sunday. More hunters in the area than we have ever seen. Still had fun.

Don?t get me wrong, we hunt this area during 4th season to coincide with the migration. Just not enough snow to push them there. My friends 14 year old son did take a four point bull on opening morning.

That?s why it?s called hunting and not shooting.

Sorry to hear that Randy. With how warm it?s been I wonder if they?ll be a migration this year!
