Why I stopped using video mode on my game cameras.

I wanted to try something new, so I put my cameras on video mode back in Feb.

I am not pleased with the results........
I have two different sets of does that seemed spooked and another two videos where they seem VERY aware of the cameras.
These were taken with my 2014 880 moutlrie. I love them for the pictures, but I will not use them for the videos again.

What do you think?

Interesting Dan, makes you wonder if that is their reaction when the camera takes a picture as well?

You\'re absolutely right.

Could be the light or could be a click in the camera. Well it probably goes off the same for both the camera and video.

Definitely makes you wonder.

Thanks for sharing Dan!
I have often wanted to try the video clips just to see how they work
Now you got me wondering!

FYI, I just found more videos.

Different cameras and I have deer acting perfectly fine and 4 coyotes passing one.

It must be the difference between IR and other cameras.

Doe^ no issue

4 bad guys^

I would say if you want to do videos, get a camera that does IR and no type of flash.
Also check it for clicks.

That\'s why I never set a flash. Yes, I won\'t get shots at night but I don\'t hunt at night. Some deer are scared of the flash. Its still ok to put out cams with flash to see what ya got but I wouldn\'t do it near where I was going to hunt. It\'s not the click they spook from

I didn\'t even know you can mess with the flash. Thanks for the tip.

I like the IR because they don\'t throw a flash and I haven\'t spooked anything yet. (At least that I know of :dk: )

The only reason I really like night time pictures is for patterning.
It was part of the reason I was able to kill my big buck. I found areas where big bucks showed up at midnight and I immediately discard that area. Then I would find them in spots they were at an hour of night fall or an hour before sun up and started working more with those areas.

Duct Tape works well for \"setting\" the flash to off mode.

Dan, from the brief looking of your examples (btw...thanks as I have often thought about turning mine to video in lower use areas for fun) it looks like it is just video mode at night? I\'m wondering if there isn\'t a noise emitted while the infrared is constantly running rather than a quick burst for a photo? As we all know a quick, spit nanosecond, noise is going to be less offensive rather than a constant one. It would be interesting to put tape over the infrared window and know if that still bothered them. That might be tough to see though! lol

Btw.....I have a ton of elk and deer on film with a regular flash....bulls up to 7 points that didn\'t care one bit that they were \"flashed\".
Like Will said though....I am more apt to turn it off as I don\'t much care if I miss night shots. Although....how am I supposed to get the boogey man, big foot or manbearpig if I turn it off at night???

I was wondering about a possible sound too. Like a click that engages the flash.
I could run some trial and error this year!

Might be worth it for other peoples benefit! :upthumb:

LOL MANBEARPIG EXSISTS!

Ya....maybe I will play with that video mode after the season. I think I have a malfunctioning cam that is trigger happy. Maybe it will behave better in video mode. I found out how many pix an 8GB SD card holds with that trail cam.....over 13,000. Oieesh. Not fun going through that many zeros.
And of course manbearpig exsists! He is half man, half bear and half pig. Everyone knows this. :p

I remember one time I filled a 16gb cam with tree branch pictures :(

It takes only one time and that never happens again!

Have you seen this one?

Nice buck.
That brings me back to wondering if its a clicking noise in the camera verse the flash.

Yours looks like it\'s well hidden up in a tree.
Mine was right up on them.

I think I just need to do some more investigating :upthumb:

Cool Vid Rudy!
Does your camera automatically zoom in on the target once triggered?
