Oh, tough one.

It looks like they are on the move. My guess they will be out of range in less than a minute.

If so, I would pass on the shot. The angle doesn\'t look right, and I won\'t shoot at moving animals.

Just me.

Punt.

Ideally I would want to know how long I am hunting and how much sign I have seen in my pre-scouting. Assuming I would have some time and I would have a good feel for where to find the elk, I would pass. It also looks like his 3rd on the left is gone, which is all the more reason to pass in an 8 point draw unit.

I have had the worst luck with muzzleloaders over the years ... and lots of experience.

To have that be a \"shoot\" call, I\'d have to have done lots of pre-season shooting. Additionally, I think it matters on the projectile.

Roundball? Nope.

I\'ve only got a 54 & it shoots round balls great! Looks like the terrain is relatively flat. I\'m going to try to keep up with the herd & get a better shot angle. Real confident at 135 yds & have no doubt about if it\'s enough bullet. I\'ll kill him if I get the right angle.

Nope! That\'s just too risky of a shot for me. But you can bet your boots that I\'ll be dogging the herd looking for an opportunity. That\'s just too good of a bull to let him walk off into the sunset.

Buglemaster ... your experience with roundballs is better than mine!

Now, a Hornady SST ML bullet seems to do much better, but it\'s my understanding that CO wouldn\'t allow it. Roundballs, in my experience, punch a .50 or .54 caliber hole in something, but don\'t seem to do a lot more damage, and for that reason I don\'t like hard-quartering shots.

That said, I have made that shot work before on WT with simple slugs, and I suppose it would work here. My confidence is not high, though ... but isn\'t it funny how a few experiences that don\'t go well will sour a person\'s confidence when, in fact, there may have been something odd about those experiences that makes them not \"representative\" of what a bullet can really do?

People are more convinced, I\'m convinced, by anecdotes than data ... and I\'m no different!

I would cow call and if it stops and turns him a little if so lead is flying. If not he gets to walk.

I am sure you can use the hornady sst ml bullets. The laws say no sabot. You can use cronical bullets and such as long as they are the size of the bore and no plastic inserts.
