Doing some guiding next week :)

Now that my bulls down and the meats in the freezer it's time to head back out and see if I can't get my old man into the elk before the rut peters out.  He's been out in the little belts (MT) over the previous week and hasn't had much success.  Hoping I can turn his luck around and re-pay him...

    Heading out tomorrow!

Heading out in the second half of tomorrow to get out into elk country!  Hiking up into a spot where I've had consistent success getting into the elk in the previous few years.  I'm going to spend the evening Friday walking through and confirming they're in there and hopefully spend the morning...

    25 days

25 days to the general archery opener in MT.  Just wanted to put it out there.  Very much ready to get into the woods and get some damage done.  I got the first 4 days of the season off from work.  Bow sighted in.  Lost 30 lbs this summer.  Increased my muscle mass.  Hiked 17 miles last weekend...

    Ground blinds and squirrels.

So my dad and I were talking on the phone about some scouting we've got planned.  I told him I was going to bring out my ground blind and "limb it up" off of a well established wallow here in the next couple weeks.  He advised me not to because "squirrels will get into it and tear it up."  I'm...

    Paleo trail eats

So beyond the obvious... jerky, cashews, almonds...what do folks out there who are paleo-oriented eat out on the trail?  I've always been a big freeze dried guy but they don't really come in "paleo" form.  Also I'm thinking since I'm burning so many calories and consuming so few out on the...

It's May! (sorry Rich Z, gonna beat you to the punch this month)

It's may!  4 months to go!  how close is everyone to goals of "being ready" for the season?  I'm sitting at 190 lbs here on the chair today.  that's 25 lbs down since January.  Shooting for another 15 lbs loss before Sept.  gets here.  Less than 5 lbs a month should be achievable.  Got a new...

looking for help: non baiting methods for spring bears.

I live in MT and unfortunately cannot bait bears due to state regs.  I've never actually focused on filling a bear tag.  What are good tactics to catch bears with archery equip in the spring?  I will be hunting in good bear country with a dense population of bear.  I figure I'll get up high and...

mythbusters question: can you keep meat cool by keeping it in the creek?

I've heard this from several guys in conversation but never practiced it.  Anybody out the have 1st hand info on this one?  With 90 degree september weather it would be convenient but my gut says no.  What say you out there?

When did you start shooting a bow?

I figured i throw this topic out to see the average of when people on the forum first started to shoot a bow and arrow.  I can tell you my earliest memories include shooting my bow with my dad when i was about 2 1/2 years old.  And in family tradition, I've got my boy shooting now at the age of...

Hunt the wallow or call and pursue for a set up?

I'm a call and pursue guy, since waiting on the wallow can be really boring if the elk are taking their time or visiting a wallow up the creek. I wanted to also see if anyone has tips for maintaining your patience when sitting and waiting.  I do enjoy reading but sometimes it just doesn't work...
