Agree that tine length isn't great, but he's still a great bull. Anything over 300" is usually considered big IMO and I'd say he's definitely over that.
I have a lot up in the air right now. Need to wait to see how tags are potentially changing in potential units I am looking to hunt. Definitely making some changes in my plans for next year, just need to fine tune those plans once that information is available.
Good luck David! Keep us posted on how it goes. And don't look at your scouting as fruitless - consider it time well spent finding out where the elk aren't. It just makes it easier to find out where they are!
You could potentially try it if you need to get a bull to move in closer. It's a little more difficult this time of year, but you still might get a bull's curiosity up by using calls.
Sorry to hear you didn't fill your tag Randy but sounds like a great experience. Can you share more about how the hunt works? You were paired up with other hunters and had guides? Do you have to leave a gratuity then? Sounds interesting as I've always been under the impression that, for RFW...
Yeah, it has slowed down a lot over the last year. It's too bad as I'm like you and enjoy popping in and seeing posts here. And we never had the drama and trolls like you find on some of the larger forums.
Preparations are in full affect for the 1st season rifle hunt. Heading out on Friday morning. Appears, as of now, to be hot and dry for the week. Time to go fill the freezer!
Congrats Ribo!!! My archery hunt ended unsuccessfully. Got into some bugling action, but the wind switched on us and they disappeared. Learned a lot more about the area though. Can't wait to get back out there next year!!
Use this thread as a place to check in and to post updates as to how things are going in your hunt. Heading out? On the road? Made it to camp and have cell service? Hearing bugles? Got one down? Let us know! It's a great way for those who aren't currently in the woods to live vicariously through...
Great pictures! Looks like some beautiful country. And yes, the mountains have been getting slammed with rain this year. Complete opposite of last year. At least we won't have to worry about fires during our hunts this year!
