2026 Colorado Big Game Brochure is Out...

A non hunting buddy of mine who’s working around Durango sent me this picture last night. He wondered if it was a good buck. Took it yesterday.

Unfortunately, I can’t get them as sharp as I want. Using diamond stones, may try paper. Looking at using the 1.75 Sevr hybrids. Taking them to Tennessee in March for hogs and if they pass that test, on to Saskatchewan bear in June. My bow is tuned, so that’s not an issue, every 125 head I have...

This year kinda wonky, too much travel time with the wife. Have an Idaho archery in my pocket. Will try for a Colorado 1st rifle. Point in Arizona, Nevada and Wyoming. Not even trying for New Mexico this year, no time. Haven’t hunted Idaho since 2009, so I’m putting a lot of my time and effort...

What did you do today to work towards your elk success?

I’ll be the one to bring a year old thread back up. I drew an Island Park elk tag in Idaho this year. After some self reflection and soul searching, I know that my physical condition hasn’t been the best. That’s about to change. Started a diet of sorts this weekend and started with physical...

    Call me crazy

I’m at 490 grains at 66#, so not much difference. A complete pass through is pretty tough on an elk. I did get pass throughs on a kudu and Wildebeest with 3 blade Muzzys. Stupid rain! It’s hard enough for me being colorblind.

    Call me crazy

Been using 125 Sevr Ti 1.5 Hybrids for whitetails the past couple years and I’m impressed. Shooting 66#, I’m getting complete pass though. Got some of the new 1.75 Hybrids for Christmas and I’m thinking about using them for elk this year. I have a hog hunt in March and a bear hunt in June to try...

Even if they pack you in a drop you off, you still have to know how to find and hunt elk on your own. You still have to contend with other public hunters and hikers. Depending on the private size and location, I would think it would be better, but remember, not every piece of property holds...

Thanks. Ya, and friend moved to Montana a few years ago and bought a house. The realtor neglected to tell him that the FS released nuisance bears basically in his backyard! Dave walks around the yard with a.44 on his hip, so he’s happy now.

So are you trying for 1st rifle or going OTC 2nd? I’ve always hunted public, NF. If it’s archery, we/I tent camp. Rifle, I get a cabin close.
