There is some quality blm land our east of there.
It\'s very unique because they only allow a few hunters on it every day.

It\'s a pretty decent size and they have great deer numbers.
If you didn\'t have a place to go, I was going to say check it out.

I\'ve only been in TX for 1.5 yrs, so I am always looking for someplace to hunt. I\'d be very interested in looking into it. Do you come over from NM to hunt it?

Texas is rough. Most of it is all private or leased land.
Very little public, at least from what I\'ve found.

We just recently found this spot east of amarillo, but have not hunted it yet. We just know it has a very healthy population of deer and can be interesting hunting. It\'s bow only.

We will probably try it out a few times this year.

I like right on the NM/TX border.

My goal was always to find a rancher in TX who needed deer taken from their property, but I was never able to....

That\'s why I just hunt Oklahoma now.

Mackbow,

Keep a eye on the Illinois DNR they are talking about not allowing NR to purchase doe tags this year. In the regulations there is a note that says they may not allow it. (just FYI)

Thanks Don, will do. If I can\'t get one myself, I\'ll just ask Dad to shoot an extra one for me. I wonder why they\'re thinking about that. Everyone always claims the NR\'s aren\'t killing enough does. I refuse to spend that much money to hunt on our own family\'s farm just for inedible antlers, so I only buy doe tags when hunting there. Curious.

Hackbow,

There are parts of the state that the numbers are down, and other parts where they are way over populated. Instead of trying to adjust harvest numbers by county they are talking about just doing the whole state for one season. There are also some that are complaining its making it too easy for someone to poach bucks with just having to call them in and not check them in. I\'m hearing they are cutting back on gun tags and that will probably be the best thing to do. I cant imagine the NR shooting that many does myself to hurt the herd.

Illinois isn\'t what it used to be that\'s for sure and everyone is pointing fingers in all directions. Personally I would like to see them manage the state like Iowa does but that\'s just my opinion. Still great hunting here but would love to see it like it used to be.
