Back from my trip..had a good time..cut the hair off ones back...no elk for me.

Sorry ya didn\'t get ya elk, Doug... :( :( But on the lighter side we can call ya WVBARBER for a while now... :D :D

Come on oldies! Crazy how this board has started to light up. Good luck to all of you guys that have not made it to the woods yet.

We tried a new unit this year near Montrose. CROWDED!!!!!!!!! HAD 20 quads go past us opening day...hunted the area for a few days then moved...ended up getting into a few elk...saw 4 bears and several bucks. Was still a good trip but I\'ll be back in my old unit next year.

Did we talk about bonus points for shot placement? Couldn\'t remember :angle:

Or for finding cool artifacts in said elk?? I\'m definitely thinking if the rifle guys couldn\'t bring her down that ought to be worth something!? Ha.

Regarding elk hunting experience...this was my 3rd season elk hunting and my 4th elk hunt though 2 of them were dec archery hunts for 6pt or better bulls only. Talk about a difficult hunt!!!

Sorry,
Bull Busters
I just striked out! 6 days of black powder hunting and got skunked! I am the weakest link.
Goodbye

No worries Gary! We\'ll do our best to make up for it. Hope you had an enjoyable trip!

Like scare...sorry to report I let the Wapinators down this Season. Made a stupid rookie mistake on day 2 and jerked my release on a slam dunk 35 yard broadside shot on a bull I decoyed in...textbook! 11 more days of hard hunting (8+ miles per day and 4000 feet of elevation daily, collectively)...produced a few encounters but no shot opportunities that I could capitalize on.

13 days I remained in the Wilderness...came home when I ran out of food :(

Weather and silent bulls were the main hurdles. Just couldn\'t seem to make it happen. :dk:

Next Season, I would go a week earlier. It seems the aggressive activity was pretty much done by the beginning of the 4th week. It\'s the first time in over 15 Seasons I\'ve ever seen that happen. None of this was due to hunting pressure IMHO...I only ran into one other group of two guys the whole time.

I was sneaking in on a bedded bull the morning after the storms had broken...when I saw the World before me, and had to stop and pull out my Camera. I was probably at about 9500 feet elevation.

Jeff, sorry to hear you weren\'t able to punch your tag. Silent bills seem to be a common theme this year. From everything I have heard, going a week earlier probably wouldn\'t have made a difference.

Sorry it didn\'t work out for you Jeff. That picture is awesome! I wouldn\'t be to disappointed with scenery like that to enjoy.
