I was planning on posting this under deer meat pole BUT I guess that will have to wait a while since I only saw 1 legal buck and 15 total deer during our trip to the deer camp for muzzle loader deer season the past week... Came home early because of the weather and wanting to stay healthy for the modern gun deer season that starts in 3 weeks...
NOW to the other game meat pole... I\'m not much of a hog hunter but have been told to shoot everyone I can... Like coyote they are a number 1 nuisance in our area... Good meat is a by product...
After hunting deer for the 1st 4 days of season and seeing very few on Wednesday the morning it was still kind of cool but not as cool as the 1st 3 days, still very dry and a little chance of rain on Friday... No rain since back in July... Hunted from my stand from 6:45 AM till 11:15 AM and saw nothing but a bunny rabbit.... We (my wife was with since she didn\'t want me to be out there alone) went back to camp for breakfast/lunch and a nap..
That afternoon was hot and my wife really didn\'t want to go back out but was getting ready to... I told her to let me go by myself... I had a cellphone and would check in by text every 30 minutes or so... She agreed...
Off I go in the ranger and get back in my stand about 4:00 PM... Did I say it was hot and dry... :downthumb: :downthumb: Made my regular check in\'s and was getting ready to make the 5:30 check in and low and behold out steps this big old boar hog in my shooting lane in what I call \"THE VALLEY OF DEATH\"... Now you have to consider like I said earlier I ain\'t no hog hunter... This was the 1st wild hog I\'d ever seen in person in the wild... He was about 145 yards... My feeder is 140 yards from the stand and I guessed him to be 5 or 10 yards behind the feeder... This was the same hog we had on trail camera trying to turn over the feeder before we staked it down with T-post... Being my 1st hog I really didn\'t want to mess up anything so when he finally turned broadside I take aim behind his ear and down a bit on his neck... Touched of the old muzzle loader and sent the .45 cal 250 gr Hornady XTP bullet on it\'s merry way.... :mg: :mg:
The view from my stand of the valley of death...
