I decided that the area for which I two doe tags, wasnt what I was looking for archery.
So, I bought another Nebraska Archery E/S tag and went back to my old stomping grounds of last year.

After holding out for a BIG buck last year on public land, I definitely lowered my standards this time around

My goal was any buck bigger than a forkhorn...

I have plenty of vacation time to use so I off I went, mid-week hoping to have low hunter pressure on the public land...

I was wrong...

I left work at noon on Wednesday, drove like \'H E Double Hockey Sticks\' to get there for the evening sit.

Got the the area, and on my way to my favorite plae, there was a truck parked!!
And another one not too far away..

Plan B!

I kept driving to the end of the road, and when I got there, ANOTHER TRUCK!

DANG.

Well, it was too late to go anywhere else so I got changed, grabbed my climber and off I went hoping for the best.

A little ways into the woods I saw a ladder stand, and a youngster sitting in it.
Thats cool!

I quietly asked which way his parent was and I went a different way.

I knew of a spot from last year so that is where I went.

Its was 530pm and I bumped a doe on the way there... :downthumb:

Found a tree, and up I went for the evening overlooking a trail coming thru some thick stuff

About an hour later, I saw the doe about 100yds away working along the edge.
She wasnt coming my way so I just enjoyed the watching.

It is SO DRY!!

Leaves are like potato chips

Slow evening....

Later that evening, I got down, put a trail camera on the trail I was watching and then drove over to where Rudy was at.

We had a beverage, traded stories and wished each other luck

The next morning I went back to the same tree.

Something I found out is that this area is probably a better morning spot.

I saw several deer, bucks and does, on another trail about 60yds further away.
They were on their way to bedding.
It was 8:15am... something to remember.... :)

Hmmmm.... I need to find a tree over there

After the morning sit, I got down and went over the a located a tree.
I trimmed the branches and up I went.
It was the best tree for a climber, a bit twisted.

It was only 35yds away from my first tree, but I could still cover the trail in the thick stuff and also where I saw the deer

Now I could shoot 35yds in both directions

Then I went over to check my trail camera from the previous night...

BINGO!

Since the tree was twisted, i decided to bring back my climbing sticks and hang-on stand.
Since it was mid-day, now was the time...

And in case I decided to go over and hunt with Rudy, I would have my climber.

Last night I didnt see a single deer.
And WOW the warm weather, and facing the sunset was brutal!

Definitely a morning stand

I couldnt wait til morning.
Hopes were high, but.... I texted Rudy and said if this spot didnt pan out with all the pressure, I would head over his way.

I arrived in my stand at 7am.
Shooting time is 7:45am

The deer should be coming by about 8:15

7:45 came and went.

8am - nada...

8:15.....

8:16........

8:17...........

DEER COMING!!!!

Here is the view from the stand.

It starts out looking at the bedding area, passes thru a couple trails, and ends up looking where my other tree and the game cam buck trail is.

Lets fast forward just a little....

After the morning excitement was over, I went and grabbed my trail cam from the previous night.

A different buck!

I\'ll wrap this up, it wont take too long

So I see this deer coming down the same trail I saw them take yesterday.
I see its a buck!

As I mentioned earlier, the buck had to be bigger than a fork horn and as he got closer, I see it was a 6pt!

I drew and waited...

If you watch the video above, he stopped in the opening at the 14 sec mark.

I settled my pin and whack!

The arrow hit high in the spine and he dropped in his tracks.

He moved a little and sent another arrow to finish him

I didnt get very good pics.

The tall grass, weeds and brush made it real difficult.
But I did get a few

He is not a big deer, but its been a looooong time since I dropped the string on a WT buck - like 13 years

And I am pleased as hell with him :)

Pure fun and excitement!

Here is a pic of my tree stand

Those deer move thru that tall grass like ghosts

My Cutco made quick work of him.

I was too far to drag him out [and I HATE dragging] so the gutless method came to Nebraska!

I let him cool i the tree while I went to get my pack since it was about 35 degrees.

I took my stand down and carried out the climbing sticks for the first trip.

Upon returning to the meat, the Kelty Cache Hauler was ready to go to work!

I loaded up the whole deer, grabbed my hang-on stand and off I went

BTW.
It was a LOAD!

This packing thing is getting to be familiar :)
