Some draw results are already out and, in some cases, the draw deadlines haven\'t even closed. Regardless of the fact you don\'t have your tag in hand yet, what are your hunting plans for the 2017 season?
My plans currently look like this. A lot of this changes if I somehow draw a moose tag, which probably won\'t happen...
- Spring Turkey: hoping to take my first long beard with the bow. I should be able to sneak out a handful of times for this.
- Colorado Archery Elk: I am hoping to spend two extended weekends archery hunting. If I get six days in, I\'ll be happy. Not a lot, or near enough to help me be successful, but I still have a rifle hunt later on.
- Colorado Doe Antelope: I\'m hoping to draw a regular season rifle tag for this for the first weekend in October. It would probably only be a two day hunt, but not much more is needed. My dad and possibly my brother-in-law should get buck tags for the same unit, which should make for a fun hunt.
- Colorado Rifle Elk: 1st season again. The plan is the same for me, leave Thursday before the season and come home Wednesday, allowing for 4 1/2 days to hunt.
- Colorado Late Season Antelope: I should be able to still get this hunt in, even if I draw the early season tag. First weekend in December, two days to hunt.
I\'m also hoping to purchase a turned in deer tag for the same area I archery hunt. My preference would be to get it for one of the later rifle seasons, but I wouldn\'t mind having it for archery if it happened that way. I need to get that first big game animal with the bow! In addition, I\'ll have a turkey tag in hand during my archery hunt.
The only hunt that\'s up in the air right now is dove. My sister decided to get married the weekend dove opens...some people\'s children, right? I\'m either going to have to try to sneak that in during the week or I will have to decide between a weekend dove hunt or archery elk hunt. I\'m hoping I don\'t have to make that decision...
