Now that seasons have officially kicked off in some states, I figured I would get this up. The idea is that anyone can post to update us on how your hunt is going, what you are seeing or hearing (are elk bugling yet, etc), and give those of us still stuck at home a taste of the high country.

I'd also encourage any of you to give a full hunt recap on your own thread if you are so inclined. We all love reading the stories, both successful and not!

Best of luck to everyone this season!!!

Got a call last week from the ranch hand that the division is cutting back on the PLO tags we've been getting the last few years.  Generally have 5 but this year only 2.  Luck was on my side and I'll get one of the bull tags and his son the other.  Likely he can talk the CPW guy into a cow tag.

So, headed to Alamosa on Weds to confirm ladder stands are all up and secure, put on climbing ropes and set out some trail cameras.  Will go back to hunt 13th through 20th.

Good luck to everyone and will report back after the Labor Day weekend.

Got out opening morning, and yesterday morning.  Found a nice little area, and saw a couple elk, but didnt want to push my luck too hard opening morning.  Ill be back there.  but saw 12 grouse at least, i wish it was small game season already, i would have been eating grouse all weekend.

That's a good start!  :upthumb:

Hunting a CO limited unit this year for the first time solo and got on a herd of about 40, cows calfs, few spikes and one small branched bull working away from me so I sat there and watched them for awhile as they fed out of a bowl. Was nice to see some action right away!

Someone on here already has a fat cow down and their camp has been making a KILLING ;)

Hi everyone. Im new to the forum, I reside up in Northern Alberta. Congrats to those who have already filled their tags! I got close on saturday, I called in a young 6?5, but he came in so fast he kinda caught me off guard and being hurried I accidently knocked my glove between my arrow knock an string. When I pulled the arrow off it made a twang, and got busted. Th bull was at 20 yards, and if I never made that mistake he probly wouldve walked by at 10 yards. The elk arent too vocal around here yet but it should be a great season. Good luck to everyone and stay safe!!

Dang, that's bad luck Z7Extreme. Maybe that'll clear the way for you to shoot his big brother later this season  :upthumb:

Welcome to the forum by the way!  :welcome:

Thanks for the welcome. I like to stay optimistic so I dont look at it as bad luck. It reminds me of the year I shot my first moose, It had been rainin all day, and I stalked a small bull to 15 yards but when I drew on him my peep was full of water so I blew it out (trying to do it quietly) but I blew the bull outta there as well. 2 days later I took a much bigger bull at 15 yards. That season worked out and Im confident this one will as well.

Super dry in SW CO.  Fortunate to hunt private land with river running through property.  Got 3 cameras ups, secured 2 stands then put up 3rd ladder stand. While putting on final safety ropes, heard splashing so grabbed phone.  Took pics 15' in stand.  Cow, calf, young bull about 80 yards!

Got out this past weekend a couple days.  Tried a new area i have never been to, but the wife wanted to check out a new lake so off we went.  Saw so cool places, but never did get into any elk or fresh elk sign, minus 1 fresh looking tree rub, but that was found at about 9am yesterday which it was about time to leave and enjoy the heavy i70 traffic back to the front range area.

Did find some turkeys that my buddy chased around for a little while since he has a turkey tag, that spiced up sunday morning a little bit.

No grouse this weekend

Good luck when you head back out!

I'll give a better report and post a few pics when I can figure out how to get them to download off my phone. We went 3 for 4 in CO. Two bulls and I got a cow hunting a OTC unit. The bulls and cows where talking good for the first couple of days then went quite.

Congrats Francis, that?s awesome! Can?t wait to hear the details and see the pics 👍

Made it out over the weekend for a quick trip. Got into some good sign, but never heard anything and never caught a glimpse of anything.

We did stumble on this spike. At first I figured it was a cat kill, but there was a decent blood trail heading to it. It was in some thick stuff so I?m guessing someone arrowed him only to find out it was a spike and left him. Too bad to see an elk wasted like that.

Heading out next Sunday again and have a week to get it done [emoji106]
