There have been many times talking with hunters that get confused over the 4 point/5 inch brow time rule.

To clarify:
A legal bull has to have 4 points on ONE (1) antler [not both]

or

a legal bull has to have ONE (1) 5 inch brow tine.

Remember that there can be up to 4 brow tines [two on each antler]
The regs state that a brow tine usually start not more than 8 inches from the skull

The quickest and easiest way I determine a legal bull is looking for ONE 5 inch brow tine

my cousin who hasnt killed a elk had a 3 x3 at 30 yds last year an didnt shoot. as i was talking with him he said the brow tines were really long, so im sure it was a legal bull. great point to bring up though

I shot a 3 point bull years ago with 8\" brow tines.
I\'ve also seen 2 point bulls that had long brow tines.
The brow tine rule was put in place because a bull can break off the main beam.
But there are lots of smaller raggies that will be legal in CO.

I had 2 spikes and a 2x3 pass by at 70yds two years ago. I told my hunting partner that I looked for another point on the 3 side but couldnt see one. I said if he just had a 1 inch point i would have shot. He said it has to be 5 inches. I got the regs out to show him a point only needs to be 1 inch and one side needs 4 points. A spike with a 5 inch brow is considered a 4 point though. He thought it had to have a 5 inch brow.

Is this legal?
