9 days......

Good luck to all that have drawn...  And maybe next for those that didn\'t... :silent: :silent:

Sorry to hear that Gary.

Congrats Bob Frapples, long time no see! Anxious to hear your report as well :upthumb:

nothing here.

like every year, i still manage to hunt a lot. just no elk..maybe another OTC hail mary for me. dunno.

thinking of going way the heck outside the box and hunting Hawaii this year. goat and pigs. then some spearfishing. wife green lighted the idea after hearing me cuss after NM let me down easy with the gentle \"unsuccesful\". hahha..

i also have a standing landowner deer hunt in NM.

my friend\'s dad and father in law both drew Valles Caldera archery elk. sick!!!

congrats to you winners!!

Sounds like I\'m going to have to check back in September (and whenever the Oryx hunt is -- they can be into February, right?) ... pretty exciting draws.

John,

You are absolutely correct, the Oryx hunts go out until February.
I actually drew the February hunt which is great.

I wont be battling extreme heat!
I cant even explain how excited I am.

Cliff.....

Next year I honestly recommend not attaching.
I can explain that more offline if you\'d like.

three six,
first hunt

Sux I got crappy off days this year

Elky, I know a guy who can hook u up spearfishing in ARkansas.

Congrats, Dan. You have quite a year coming up!
Well, my Valles Caldera tag is official--the email landed in my spam folder, along with an email saying I drew archery deer in unit 10.
I know what it feels like not to draw, so I hope everyone manages to find hunts, whether OTC or in other states or other species.

no worries, I always have Idaho....

Thanks, Dan. Fortunately, Valles Caldera hunts are not once in a lifetime. You can apply (and draw) as often as you\'re able. The only catch is the lottery tickets are non-refundable if you don\'t draw.
I\'m excited, but nervous. This hunt is during Nov. rifle/any weapon season, and since I\'m a bowhunter, I may need to de-lurk more often to ask about strategies.

I would imagine that not many people will be hunting around that time?
That is a tough choice. I am stubborn and would want to use a bow, but I understand that it might be tough in that situation.

Time to start shooting a gun just in case!

Again, congrats!!!!!

ABQ & Dan
When I drew my OIL Colorado bull moose rifle tag in 2009, I could have have changed it to any other weapon I wished.
I didn\'t
Even tho i LOVE bowhunting, I stuck with my rifle and I never regretted using a rifle taking a B&C moose.
I am a hunter. I am the one dropping the string or pulling the trigger, not anyone else.
Don\'t second guess yourself and choose what YOU want to use.

You drew 36?!! If so I can help. If you need it.

Dan and cnelk,

I\'ve only bowhunted so far, and don\'t even own a rifle (but love shooting them). I knew this particular hunt would be during rifle season--just never thought I\'d actually draw it! While I\'d prefer to commit to bowhunting, it would be awful to blow such a unique opportunity.

There are only 20 of us who drew that hunt, and they usually assign each hunter their own subunit, so it\'s not like typical public land hunting in that respect. We can only scout it the day before the hunt, but they do give some tips and try put everyone in elky spots. So using a bow might not be such a disadvantage.

Would it be overkill to take both rifle and bow? (Both! The clear answer for the decision-challenged...)

It\'s funny you ask this.
I am no lying researching right now if someone hunting in an any legal weapon hunt, can carry both a bow and a gun.
The mule deer hunt I drew in an any legal weapon hunt in Colin Neblett.
Are you familiar with Eagles nest?

It\'s a VERY rough hunt, but like you, I am addicted to my bow.
If I can, I plan on bringing both my bow and gun.

That way I can be flexible with the situation.

You do have a very unique and fantastic hunt ahead of you, I would also hate to see it go to waste.
