my grandfather passed away two weeks ago. the man was solely responsible for placing a bow and fly rod in my hands. he left two beautiful bows behind. a re-curve and long bow. he had no sons and im the only one of his grandsons that latched on to hunting. now I've made it my personal goal to harvest a bull with one of these bows. basically what i need to know is whats going to be the big advantages and disadvantages of both? if there is any. im not looking to dive in to it head on as im still enjoying compounds. but its something im going to start preparing myself for. any advise is much appreciated. thanks guys.

Sorry about you loss :(

I would say either would be good to use, you just need to set your expectations correctly for shooting at shorter distances and practice, practice, practice!!!

No reason you can not shoot both.  I have two recurves and my compound laying in my garage with a block target. I routinely shoot both, with more time spent on the recurves. At 20 feet I just focus on release and anchor points. I hunt with both bows and understand each bows limits. You can and should enjoy both.
