Just got back from Arizona after 5 days of hunting havelinas. The weather was pretty cold for AZ, with the lows in the -18* to 0* range and the highs in the 20's. It was sunny, but cold. The terrain was typical AZ high desert, with every plant and cactus trying to hurt you.
I wore my elk hunting gear, which consist of Sitka Mountain Pants, Sitka Core Crew LS, Sitka Jetstream Vest and Sitka 90% Jacket. And while it was a little light for the cold weather when glassing, it was perfect when hiking. What impressed me the most about my Sitka gear in this terrain was the Mountain Pants. While my 3 other hunting partners spent a great amount of time pulling cactus needles from their pants and jackets every day I spent all of about 30 seconds combined for 5 days of hunting pulling needles while hunting in the same terrain. My Moutain Pants and the 90%jacket just didn't pick up very many needles. I'm confident my hunting partners will be pulling needles from their gear for a while. Needless to say, if I didn't LOVE my Sitka gear already now I'm just absolutely nuts about it. WOW................
