Hello all,

Just wondering what opinions everyone has about archery season in Colorado. Is it better to hunt the 2nd week of Sept just before Muzzle loader season or to hunt after when its the last week of Sept and closer to the rut.

Also, wondering how full moon affects elk activities in September?  Do they have little movement during the day and mostly at night or it doesn't matter?

Thanks for your tips.

Since you haven't gotten a response - here's my two cents worth - and I'm no expert.  I personally plan to hunt the last 10 days of archery season in SW Colorado only because it fits my out-of-state schedule.  The fact that this is during the New Moon cycle increases my optomism just a bit.  I think the rut in this part of the state has been inching towards the first week of October or even later...so...with any luck at all the last week SHOULD provide better opportunity to hear more vocal bulls.  Good luck whenever you decide to go.

We hunted the week prior to muzzleloader last year and the bulls we very vocal.

If the area you are going to has limited muzzleloader tags then it probably doesn't matter too much but if there are a ton of muzzy tags given out I'd go before.  I've been in areas where a lot of muzzy tags are given out and had bulls going nuts prior to muzzy week and had them go completely silent afterwards.

I'm going the first week again and Probly after muzzy season. I'll let ya know how vocal they are after all the smoke poles are gone!
