Are you and your hunting partners synced up?

If you remember from last year I was invited (or I invited myself... :mrgreen: ) to hunt an area with Atfrith the last weekend of the season. Anthony and I have been communicating pretty much weekly since last season. I believe we are very much on the same page. My son will be with us for a couple weekends as well this year in this unit and he is a good listener and has been practicing his calling and knows about the different setups we will be employing this year...as well as when to zip it.

Are you and your hunting partners on the same page?

This was a report of our adventures from last year.

i hunt mostly with my brother and previously a dude named justin.

oddly enough, i am better with Justin. he is a great hunter, very stealthy, and great knowledge of the land and a fantastic sense of direction. he knows my feeble animal count and always insists that i go after the animal first. i usually decline or we paper/scissor/rock. GREAT GREAT GUY. we dont see eye to eye on some issues, we know this and never talk about it. like good friends should.

Justin got married and is a merchant marine, so doenst hunt much anymore. sad for me.

my brother..great guy, but gets down on hunts all the time..when he blows a stalk, or something doenst work out. i laugh when i miss..having a shot op is HUGE!! i love it. i get tired of the whining sometimes. i think a blown opportunity is a billion times better than NO opportunity. hahahha
 
I too hunt with a couple different groups of people. I do muzzy with one of my best friends and now concentrate on archery with Tom (lark). Tom and I are definitely more on the same page than my Muzzy buddy and I have ever been on. I think it\'s largely due to us being \"synced up\" as you put it. Being in contact and discussing different methods and ideas keeps us both in tune and on the same page so to speak. I\'m psyched for this season!
 
Well we were in synced up until last weekend. I hunt with a close cousin and we are very much in tune with each other with are elk hunting. Last year was an awesome year we got into lots of elk and his calling has come a long way. We had high hopes for this year and had several game plans in place. But unfortunately he was diagnosed with colon cancer last week. Good news is they caught it in time and believe it will be 100% curable. You can hear it in his voice of how upset he is knowing he will most likely have to sit this season out because of the treatments he will have to do.
 
Sorry to hear that about your cousin. It\'s good they found it early. A couple of years ago my uncle missed going out with me for the same reason. He took the season off and did what the Dr told him and he was back hunting the next season .
 
Someone needs to ask Francis and Dan about being synced up when turkey hunting together! I\'m sure one of them would love to recount it! :lol:
 
I don\'t think Francis will ever want to be within 150 yards of me and turkey hunting.

nope.... that\'s why I got a bad case of poison ivy, why army crawling to my 2nd bird. actually, it was trying to get dan his first bird :D
 
Yes...or we wouldn\'t be partners! Having good hunting partners is a true honor, and being synced with them is a treasure. When I first started hunting several years ago, I was fortunate to share experiences with one good hunting partner after trudging through a lot of empty promises from others.

Often, the best hunting partnerships are developed throughout the year, or throughout life. All year long we shoot bows, talk hunting, study maps, offer to help on other hunts, lend and borrow equipment, and celebrate or commiserate life events. My immediate partners and I happen to live near each other, which helps. But I feel fortunate to share a similar camaraderie with a few fellow hunters long distance (should we ever get the chance to hunt together), and it\'s something I won\'t take for granted.

Pikemaster, I\'m sorry to hear about your cousin, and hope he pulls through treatment with flying colors. I was sidelined by cancer just before season a few years ago, too. At the time, hunting partners and friends out in the field sent regular texts, emails, and phone calls to help make me feel like part of the gang, which meant the world to me...
 
sorry to be so cryptic.

i think an elk hunting team needs to be similar in physical ability. not just so you can cover the steep terrain..but everything else as well.

when you\'re about to pass out on the mountain..you\'re super sweaty, drinking all of your water, etc. it\'s awful. been there.

my partner, i let him take the lead. set the hiking pace, and decide if a valley was too steep to drop into. he over committed. not enough water, and the climb out was too steep. not so sure he will go with me again. :)

This is why I am solo Cliff. There was a time when my hunting partner of 15 years and I would hear a bull, and it didn\'t matter where he was, we were after him. Even though he was ten years younger, he got progressively worse over the Years, and wouldn\'t want to put in the legwork...and his beer drinking increased proportionally with his lack of physical commitment.

My success rate went up very soon after I cut the cord.
