Awe man! Hunting plans blew up in my face.

Have you asked your son what he\'d like to do?
Yes, and good point.

He \"wants\" to stay with me all week. He\'s afraid I will get an elk when solo and he won\'t be there to experience my first big game animal. He also understands school comes first and he is fine with my new plan.

Ideally, and it\'s wishful thinking...HE will get an elk opening morning then I can go after one once his is dealt with.

5 years ago on opening morning at 8:05 am on my very first day of being in the role as the hunter, I called a 4x4 over to a very easy broadside shot at 16 yards. Too bad I aimed high on the vitals and he ducked. Arrow just cleared his shoulder.

If I can get a shot on a legal elk on my first day being a hunter with no mentoring and only a little prior experience as a caller for some else, it can happen to you and your son. I have no doubt you and your son have done far more preparation and scouting than I did for my first season.
