AZ ELK HUNTING

Depending if I get drawn for NM public draw elk Gila or Valles Caldera, if I don't get either then I'll put in for AZ via Navajo game and fish.

AWESOME  ;D  Thanks for sharing AZ Elk hunt is definetly on my list!!!

Better start putting in now. It will take you a L O N G time to draw unit 9.

There are other good units in AZ besides 9. With better draw odds as well!!
9 is the monster unit , but unless you hire a guide you usually are bumped alot by guided hunters who ocupy any and every water hole you can find.

I was actually mulling this subject in my mind today.  I get out of the military in a little less than a year and unless I happen to land a job making significantly more than I do now, I'll never hunt AZ.  I figure it takes at least a few points, 3 or 4, to get into a decent unit.  AZ does not refund any of your application price, totaling around $150 if I'm not mistaken.  So, as a non-res, by time I have 4 points to burn I'll already have invested about $600, plus the tag when I draw it, plus all remaining logistics.

I guess I look at it differently.  I've never been a horn hunter.  I'm not knocking those that are, we just have different perspectives.

As an Arizona resident I put in every year. Tough to draw good hunts. My last and only tag was in 2002. Im thinking I'm about due.
