Beetle killed trees

What's your take on areas of beetle killed trees?  Do elk seem to avoid those areas or does it seem to make any difference?  Do older killed-areas with deadfall logs factor into your answer?

I have found that areas with a lot of beetle kill pine and deadfalls are more dificult to hunt. The reason being, there is a lot of sunlight making its way to the forest floor which is allowing for a lot of grass to grow in these areas. Basically, the elk are living in a restaurant. They eat whenever and where ever they want. But find a dark timber shelf next to a deadfall area with a lot of grass growing, and you might hit payday! Just my experience. It worked for me!!! Good luck!
