Hi all this is my first year bowhunting and I'm just wondering if 40 pounds would be sufficient for killing elk?  I only plan on 20-25 yd shots if I can even get one.

Thanks for any advice.  Oh I'm in Montana so I'm not sure yet if they have a poundage requirement or not.

I posted this question about 2 months ago and the almost unanimous answer was 45 lbs and was also my recommendation. If you practice on a regular basis it wont take much time before you get to 45 . my wife started this year and we started her off at 25 lbs in May and now she is at 55lbs . at the time we started she couldn't even pull back 45. your muscles will develop fast as you learn proper form .Keep pushing you self you will get there.  7 more days till opener for us  :) . any questions with any thing don't be afraid to ask , don't know what area you hunt but im out of Helena if your out , see ya on the mountain !!!!
