Dan Evans And Cameron Hanes regularly practice at over 200 yards. They rarely mention their actual shot distances.
My elk shot distances have ranged from 3 yards to 35 yards (I shoot stickbows). Probably a dozen have been killed inside 10 yards. Thinking back on it, my average shot distance is around 20 yards.
To the OP, guys in the West shoot at longer distances than our eastern brethren. I know guys who kill stuff on the prairie at 100 yards +, and I have no doubt they shoot elk at 80+.
