Well...I put this poem together a few years ago and have it hanging up below my first bull rack. Gets me motivated every time I read it, so thought I'd share it with all my like minded brothers out there (although some parts may be more particular to me).
BOWHUNTING
Always in my mind
The lessons learned from last year
Bowhunting isn’t a hobby
Bowhunting is my career
Preparation consuming me
Throughout the entire year
What changes do I need to make
What new additions to my gear
No one can explain
This burning feeling in our guts
That drives bowhunters to succeed
That drives our wives nuts
Maybe it’s the perfect stillness
Seeing nature a way no one else can
Or maybe it’s the desire for perfect victory
Born into the heart of a challenge thirsty man
Heart and mind in two places
Missing family and feeling alone
One bugle snaps you back to the mission
Helping an arrow find its home
Though when the stars finally align
You’ll get to start the clock
How long does one need to wait
When your arrow is red tip to nock
Hopefully blessed with a perfect hunt
Your trophy lying in the brush
Your heart grateful for a clean kill
Calming yourself after the amazing rush
The ultimate challenge awaits
Each and every year
Could this be the season
I tag an elk, pronghorn, and deer
No matter what happens
Success or painful defeat
Any day in the elk woods
Is truly an amazing treat
