So I am just getting started on archery elk hunting.  I have elk hunted for over 20 years with a rifle in WA.  I have done a lot of turkey hunting and have become successful in calling them in.  Do you guys that hunt both believe its easier to call in a bull or a tom?  I intend to do a lot of practicing on the calling.

Tom as in turkey then yeah its a lot easier to call in then a bull.  I have hunted turkeys for the past ten years and have taken three a year in the spring and at least two in the fall.  But its good practice with a diaphragm when calling turkeys.

From my little experience with turkey, if a Tom is in the area they are coming in. When it comes to elk it is a lot more tricky if you ask me. I would compare calling in a Tom to calling in a spike or raghorn bull but then again I have not hunted a weary old Tom that I hear so much about like I have tried to pull in that monster bull.

I agree, calling in elk is harder than calling in a Tom. Not to mention, it is way more amazing to see a big ol'  bull come running in to your call than it is a Tom. Nothing compares.

Thanks guys. I am just preparing now. I have done a lot of turkey calling with diaphragms so the transition should be easier than if I hadn't.
