cattle and elk

i just found out that a couple of weeks ago the rancher moved his cattle into the main canyon i was going to try to hunt. how do you think it will effect the elk in that area?
 
I've personally have never had a problem with elk and cows.  I have had problems with elk and sheep. 


One thing that could mess it up for you is if the rancher gathers up his cattle and moves them during your hunt.  All that hooping and hollering, plus dogs barking can be a bad deal.  If they park the cattle there and leave them alone it should be fine.
 
i have lots of trail cam pics of where i am hunting that have both cattle and elk at the same time, they do not seem to bother each other
 
thanks guys. im hoping my lack of sign in the area is just temporary as they used this area  very heavily in the past. maybe in another 10 days they will have setteled back into their old patterns of using the wter holes and such. Thanks again.
 
No problems here with cattle and elk.  They even run sheep in the place we hunt and neither seem to bother the elk.
 
I've hunted elk around cows a lot in the past. The cows never caused me any problems except for if you spook the cattle and the elk are close, they chase off the elk too when they bust. Sat on a pond one night and a spike bull with a cow came to drink, and out of nowhere a young domestic bull charged in and rammed the bull elk in the rear! About knocked him for a loop! Lol Elk prefer close grazed grass in comparison to un-grazed grass too.....

I had this happen in CO a few years ago.  The rancher was herding his cattle out of the area the day we were in there hunting.  We kept seeing cattle everywhere, but also a ton of elk sign.  I glassed up what I thought was an elk and it turned out to be a moo cow, then to my right something moved.  I thought it was another moo cow, but it was a bull elk!  He stared me and my buddy down while we sat still for a minute and then started moving up the hill.  I started up the hill parallel to him and got to a spot and came to full draw.  Just as he was stepping into the area I could shoot him, the ranchers dog came tearing through barking and chasing the bull away. 
Ive never been so pissed off in all my life!  I wanted to shoot the dog, which maybe could have been justified as it was chasing wildlife, but thought better of it.  Saw a few other cow elk being chased out of the area by the dog also.  Rancher never knew we were in there.
Moral of the story---I HATE cattle on public land!
 
I've seen elk and cattle in the same meadow before. However I have never seen elk and cattle share the same water
 
Thanks guys. maybe not all is lost... i did find another water hole up on top of a ridge to the north of the canyon the elk were using. im going to head out there saturday and put a game camera on it and see if thats where the elk have moved to get water since the elk sign around the meadow tanks has fallen off to almost none.
 
cattle and elk graze together in my are every year I think it actually helps , the elk get more use to the extra noise and you have a little more leeway if you make noise while stocking.
 
i'm having the same issue on the property I hunt. I am still seeing lots of elk, i just think they come to water a little later because of the cows.
 
never seen a problem with cows and elk. i skirt them to sneak in to areas have seen them on acam licking the same block before
