Hello,

Our group will be on a drop camp hunt for 10 days this September and we would like to purchase a solar charger or battery packs for our phones, both Andriod and I-Phone. Our outfitter has told us that we will be able to text the base camp from our camp.

Anybody here with experience with a reliable solar charger or battery packs and if so, what brand would you recommend to buy or maybe stay away from??

Also, how about the pros and cons of both styles of charging??

Thanks

I\'ll be following this as I too am in the market.

I have a couple at home that I would NOT recommend as the power button protrudes from the main body and constantly gets turned on while in my bag. Once it gets low it actually drains my phone battery quicker than me not using the dang thing. I received these via a promotional gift bag at a convention a couple years ago but I have seen the exact models in the stores. It\'s about 1\" X 1\" X 3\" long and claimed to charge a phone 2 1/2 times. Nevermind the company name here but this is what mine look like.

If you be smart about how you use your phone, it will last a long time.
Turn off any background apps, Bluetooth etc and only turn it on for 5 mins each evening.

I do carry one of these \'Pocket Juice\' to recharge mine when needed

The solar chargers work but they are slow. It is much better to use them to recharge the battery pack and use that to charge your phone than it is to try to charge the phone directly. They do work but they are slow. At least that is what I have found with both of mine.
