My last purchase will be a tent. I\'m looking at a REI Passage 1 or Kelty Gunnison or Kelty Salida. Anybody ever use any of these tents. They are in my price range, around $150 and should fit my pack configuration and camp setup. My hunt dates are 30 Aug until 13 Sep unless the hunting gets better and then I\'m prepared to extend my dates. Should be camping between 9500 and 1100.

I used a cheap dome tent for a spike camp once. I put it up and sprayed it good with water repellant. As long as you stay dry anything will work. I upgraded to a BA tent for the lighter weight. I also used just a Bivy Bag. A simple waterproof cover for a sleeping bag. It worked fine but my new tent dosen\'t weigh much more and I can dress in it if it is raining and keep my gear under the vestible.

Cheap tents won\'t be light
Light tents won\'t be cheap

You will need to sacrifice $$$ or weight

Weight isn\'t as important as $$$ at this point. More concerned about function and durability.

steve, look at camofire daily or email them an see what tents they have had up recently. i saw one on there not to long ago that was something in the neighborhood of a 325 dollar backpacking tent for like 150 ish. email or call them, if they still have some they will give you the deal. at least they always did me. also look at sierra trading post. you can usually get some good deals on tents there. thats where i got mine.

if you want to save a couple bucks, you can hit thrift stores and look for good tents at a discount.

my buddy bought a really nice two man tent for ~$20 and it is in fantastic shape. its our spike camp/emergency lodging for the \'14 trip.

Steve, I have a Kelty Gunnison and and like it very much. Not the lightest at a little over 5 lbs. but roomy, durable, and sturdy. If you aren\'t packing in very far from the truck it works great. I have the Gunnison 2.1. You will find that most 1 person tents don\'t work well for trying to keep you and your gear dry if it rains. They are pretty cramped.
In case you might be interested I have a new Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight still in the box. Its a 2 man that weighs a little under 4 lbs. I think. Wasn\'t planning on getting rid of it but its just been sitting on the shelf for several years now. The price would put it in the category of your thread title!

I appreciate it but I had a buddy pick me up a Passage 1. He had a coupon so I got it for just under 100. I have a friend who uses that tent on float trips and have actually seen it. I think I can make due with it, especially for the price.
