This bull was taken with a frontal shot last year at 9 yards. As most have said, being really close and knowing where to aim is key. The sternum is a massive bone you want to avoid.
If you look at the rear quarter, my arrow went all the way through (longways) and out the back. Lots of KE right out of the hopper!
Had a chance at this shot last year but passed. 15 yards was kicking myself afterwards, I knew I could have made that shot. That kid on the you tube video kept running through my head. So some one tell us the story, or better yet the story when "their buddy" tried it, and it went terribly wrong, "The Nightmare".
Yep - I did it at 30 yards and it was devastating. Huge blood trail and the broadhead continued to dig itself deeper into the elks chest/neck as he moved. In total, he probably went about 400 yards up a hill.
I had my shooting dialed in and very consistent when I did that a few years ago. If you can't hit a baseball-sized target in the conditions, I'd probably say to wait.
