Choose One

If you had to choose one, would you use the contact bugle or cow call to locate elk?

Contact bugle if I could only have one. Last bull I got though was using a cow call to locate elk. I like the bugle for ridge tops and reaching out. I\'m using the cow call if I am in the timber and I think there might be animals close by. If I see very fresh sign and I\'m in the thick timber I am cow calling and inching along.

It\'s \"situational\".

I know that if I bugle, I have a chance of bringing in another hunter that could potentially screw up my hunt. Typically, I do more listening than calling, but if the bulls seem to be somewhat vocal and responsive, I\'ll contact bugle first, then go to a loud estrus type cow call.

Many times, the bulls will not answer the bugle, but will hit me back when they hear the cow call.

Most of the time, I won\'t call at all until I believe I\'m close to the elk.

To locate elk I would prefer the bugle. I have had bulls call out to cow calls, but more respond audibly to a bugle.

Sceery HyperHot has located more bulls for me than a bugle
Any way you could post a sound bit with how you use this call? And do you use it through out the archery season?

Cow call for me. The area I hunt now if I let out a bugle I would have hunters all over me.

Its not a call I use a lot. I use it with plenty of volume, with a \'skip\' in the cadence.

Aaron Johnson requested to come over in the near future to review some calling and maybe I will have him do a quick recording

Terry [Bowhunter] yes, this call is now called the Sceery ACE 3 [used to be called the HyperHot ~15 years ago]

It works good as a predator call too

Yeah that would be great because I to use this call but not sure if I\'m using it correctly. when you say you don\'t use this call a lot what do you mean by that, do you mean that as a last resort or when you\'re on top of a ridge calling down inside of drainages, just durning rutting times?

cow call.

i cow call much better than my bugle. however, a distant bull laughing at me and i locate him with that? i\'ll take it!

Situational here as well.

The area I hunt does a switch sometime mid season. It is when I know the rut has really kicked in. In the first half of the season, bugles are the only call that gets a bull bugling. In the second half cow calls are all that work.
