Cnelk goes to Wyoming - Pics & Vids Posted!

Lets get back to some elk hunting....

The terrain was awesome. Chained meadows with timbered slopes on the sides.
Water was everywhere so there was lots of wallowing evidence

Once we headed into the timber, there was lots of evidence of rubs, big rubs

The Kifaru \'medium\' stove warmed up the the tent quite nice.
It was good to be able to dry out socks

Tuesday morning the weather turned...

We knew the forecast showed a system to arrive and we were prepared.... for the most part

John and I hiked over a mile to find some cell reception on top of some scree.
The fog and wind did not make for favorable hunting conditions.

John got enough signal to get an updated weather report....

uh....oh....

The weather tried to get us down, but we wouldnt let it.

We hunted between wind and rain storms and still got into elk.

Thursday was the worst day.
We saved our wood by walking out on Wednesday to be able to have it for Thurs, to keep warm and dry.

It pretty much sucked all day.

We did get into a buugling bull and some cows right before sundown. That was very encouraging!

And of course Friday morning all was quiet....

I wonder why????

I went for a quick \'scout\' behind camp to see what was moving. Decided to leave my bow.
As I turned around, there was a cow elk!
At least I got a pic of her track :)

But we still went out and hunted!!!

We were on our way to where the bull was bugling the night before

we went out to a big meadow where the bulls like to bugle....

Nothing but snow...

Two miles later, we saw no elk sign. Only PEOPLE tracks!

here we are, 7 miles in the backcountry and we find SEVEN sets of hunter tracks!

I guess others had the same idea... go deep... get away from everyone. NOT

The scenery was nice tho!

Friday mid-morning, the skies cleared and the sun came out!

We strung up a rope and started to dry out all our gear and clothes

Friday stayed sunny and warmed up to melt most of the snow.
We hoped that the clear weather would spark bugling action....

it didnt

Saturday we went a on a 5 mile+ hike looking for some action.

We slipped along the edges of meadows and bugled every so often
