Comparing elk to deer

Hello all,
I'm very new to elk hunting. This was my second year and I was lucky enough to stick a bull in Montana this past week. My bull is around 330-340. We just rough scored him. Once I get the skull plate back from my taxidermist I plan to get a more accurate measurement. Being new to elk hunting, I was curious how a 330 inch bull compares to a whitetail or mule deer. Would it be like a 150 whitetail? I realize some may say it depends on where you hunt, but P&Y and B&C don't take that into account at all. Just curious so I can wrap my mind around it as some of the local people were surprised at how underwhelmed I seemed. Thanks!!

If taken on public land most people (myself included) are going to consider that a giant. Most hunters will never get their hands on a 300" public land bull. Regardless of public or private that is a great bull and being you only have been out two years consider yourself the minority and very blessed.

I hunted whitetail and lived in Illinois until 05 so I think I have a unique perspective. Shooting a 330-340 on public land, DIY unguided is a 165 Whitetail.  Once every 10-15 year or lifetime kinda thing.
Shooting a 330-340 guided or on private could just be like taking a nice 140 whitey.  You can sometimes hold out hunting this way and get a bull in the 350 range.
Personally, either way, he'd be on my wall, if taken with a bow.  That's a trophy in anyones book.  Pics, pls!

In the area I hunt in Montana a 330 bull would be an aprox equivalent to a 180 inch mule deer ,I Have taken over 50 bulls now and my biggest is around 300, 330 for almost all elk hunters is a one in a life time, you will most likely  never get one bigger on a general season tag.

No need for comparison. I think we do too much of that now a days. That's a fantastic bull any way you look at it! Trophy in any archery hunters mind!
I agree.

A 330-340 class - DIY bull on public land with a bow is a great accomplishment for sure. It's something that will be challenging to replicate unless you are hunting difficult to draw trophy quality units.

Dan Evans from Trophy Taker has the most respectable collection of bulls above the 325+ mark on public land I know of.

A stud bull for sure, you should be stoked....enjoy!

Thanks, I appreciate the input. If anyone isbored here is my ND bow deer from this year. It's self filmed besides the recovery. Hope you enjoy, thanks again!!
