My father worked so much he had little time so I started myself with a bb gun he and mom gave me as a gift in the backyard... After a few years and almost eliminating all the small critters in the back yard and nearby woods, my father gave me an ol' Remington Model 17 20 gauge pump that his father had given him.. After that nothing was safe.. That ol' pump killed squirrels, rabbits, quail, dove, ducks, deer whatever was legal at the time.... I semi-retired that ol' Remington when I bought my 1st Remington 870 12 gauge... I still have the ol' Model 17, my 1st and 2nd 870 in the gun safe and still use the Model 17 for small game but want shoot any of the higher power loads of today or any waterfowl thru it...
So I guess I was self taught with a bit of help from my father and a few good friends... Sorry to say I never knew any of my grand parents... But I bet I've hugged a few trees that both my father and grand dads wondered by during their lifetimes...
