Troy from Glacier Country calls joined Elkmentors a few weeks ago. And I\'d like to give him a big wELKome.

For you guy that may not know him, he is one heck of a caller and elk hunter. And his son? All I can say is WOW! That kid could blow any of us self proclaimed buglers out of the water any day. He is one fabulous young man.

Before I meet Troy, my calling was limited. After using his calls and receiving some mentoring, my calling has reached a level that I thought I would never be able to obtain.

He keeps telling me I should go to competition, but I have really bad stage fright. It\'s going to take a lot of pushing to get me up there. :wave:
 
I as well have become a better elk caller since meeting Troy not only with his teachings but his products are some of the best. He is one heck of a guy.
 
Last year, Troy spent a lot of time with me on the phone talking about \'all things elk\'. The guy lives and breathes elk...and has decades of knowledge. He confirmed something that I\'ve observed throughout the years...when bugling, go for the high notes. I think he calls it a \'trigger\'. I know that most of the times that I hear a guy bugling, there isn\'t enough of a high note in the call.

At one point I asked him how many diaphragms he took out into the field. I think he said 50 or so. That got me to rethink my \'2 or 3 diaphragms in the pocket\' routine. I ordered a dozen or so from him. My favorite is \'Troy\'s Secret Weapon\'...but don\'t tell too many people (Ha!) His number is (406) 756-5920.

A crazy thing happened when Troy and I were talking \'elk\' on the phone. Troy asked me where I was from, and I told him Northern California. He said that he knows a guy from Northern California who he gets together with when the guy comes to Montana to go antelope hunting. Because just about everyone who isn\'t stuck in Los Angeles or San Diego considers themselves part of \'Northern California\', that didn\'t mean much to me. I told him that I was from real Northern California, up next to the Oregon border.

Well, he thought this guy was too. I said that I\'m from a little town of 2,500 people up in the mountains...Mount Shasta.

Turns out his friend is from Mount Shasta too.

\"Jeff Hawkins\".

\"Hawk?\" (Hawk\'s a bit of a legend in our town...with a talent for relating stories of adventure and intrigue) \"I think he lives at the other end of my street\".

Sure enough, of all the guys Troy knows in Northern California, two of them live on the same street in a town of 2,500 hillbillies and hippies.

I, would like to Thank You WW, John Fitzgerald,Flystraight and Siskiyou I appreciate your compliments, very much. I am proud to say that I have helped some of you, take your calling to a higher level.

I am the first to admit that I can gab about Elk Hunting for days on end!! LOL

I try very hard to make Excellent Calls, and I have personally helped literally hundreds of guys become better elk callers. So I am sure I can help some of you on here as well.

I am also going to mention that my wife and Daughter might not practice very much but, can Call with the best of you and not hang their head either!! I realize that is Bragging a little but they are my Family and I am proud of them. They are Elk Calling Champions as well!
Thanks again for the compliments, I really appreciate them. I hope some of my experience with calling and elk hunting can help some of you in the future!

Troy: I too am glad to see you here. I know you add a lot of valuable advise to any elk discussion. Maybe together we can partially control WW. Well, maybe not , but we should be able to limit the effects of his shenanigans.

Swede, Thank You for the compliments. As for WW... well we both know he likes to play tricks, I can only imagine the shenanigans that went on, yesterday, April fools day at his place! All in good fun I am sure.
 
I called Troy last week with a couple simple questions and he went above and beyond that into great detail after 15 minutes or so I made up my mind on what calls to order and we ended the conversation.... 10 minutes later he calls me back and goes into more great info even demonstrated a few calls over the phone we ended that conversation with him telling me he had to run his lunch break was about over.....heck of a great guy to burn up his lunch hour on a guy he\'s never spoke to before! Thanks so much troy! Keep up the great work!
