I bought my wife a really good dehydrator for her birthday. I think I created a monster!!! So far she has dehydrated bananas, peaches, apples. jerky, all sorts of fruit leathers, and almost forgot the dehydrated watermelon. YUM! Too many things to mention here. I\'m really wanting to try doing soups and chilli. Any of you guys tried that yet?

Bill,

I love mine. I have done jerky, bananas, cranberries, and apples so far.
So many more things that I want to attempt.

By the way, check your PM.

It says I\'m not authorized to send of receive PM\'s Can you fix that? Never mind, I found it!!!!

My wife did more experimenting last night. Would you believe dehydrated chocolate pudding, mandarin oranges, yogurt, and even a can of vegetable beef soup.

I have been tossing around the idea of getting one of these but need to research them.

I\'m in the same boat as Don. Icy and WW, care to share the brand and model of those you are using?

This is where I got mine. It is the 9 tray Excalibur 3900. They are running some pretty good sales on them right now.

This is what I got.
I have had no issue with it. :upthumb:

They are lots of fun.

I plan on making lots of creations this year with me dehydrator and smoker. :upthumb:

I did a can of Campbells vegetable beef soup yesterday and had it for lunch today. It took about 15 minutes to re-hydrate it by adding 1 cup of boiling water. Everything was fine except for a couple of things. The beef chunks were still fairly hard but the other stuff came back very well. I think 1/2 cup of water would have been a lot better. I like my soup a little thicker. Anyhow, the flavor was just fine. I think plain old vegetable soup would be the ticket. Probably couldn\'t tell it from fresh from the can.

Let me know if any of you guys come up with something good. Been thinking about doing ice cream. I know, it wouldn\'t be cold but the flavor should still be there. A little of it in a cup of coffee might be pretty good.

Bill,
How long did it take to dehydrate the can of soup?

I made a batch of elk spaghetti last night, and Im thinking about doing some of that

That sounds like some good eating Brad. We generally fill the dehydrator up and turn it on in the evening and let it run all night. We have made elk burger jerky and it came out great. The longer you do it, the drier it gets. You can always pull a tray out and check it. Temperature is only about 140* or so. Do danger of getting burned.

I have to get off of here. Got an appointment! But later on I\'ll tell you how I fix it all up in the field.

I use a military canteen with the cup and little stove that all fits over the bottom of the canteen. I also made a 10\"x10\" cozy out of one of those reflectex windshield covers. It folds flat and I taped the sides up with gorilla tape. It is also handy to sit or kneel on if you want and takes up no room in my pack.

I place my meal in a one quart freezer bag. (get the good ones not the dollar store stuff) Then I figure out how much water I\'m going to need to hydrate my meal back up and bring it to a boil in the canteen cup. Next I pour the boiling water in the zip loc bag with the meal and place it in my cozy. By the time the meal is hydrated the canteen cup has cooled off. So then I place the plastic bag in the cup and fold the top over the rim of the cup. This makes it real easy to eat out of the bag.

The part I like best is when I\'m through eating I can burn the bag or fold it up and pack it out. WA LA!! No dishes to wash!
