Did you shoot today?

I shot 30 arrows in the backyard this past Saturday at 20 yds. Need to get the \'ol muscle memory back - but feels good to shoot!

5 arrows yesterday with the new bow!
Today I am doing a few more.

Very sore going on the weak arm, so I want to take it slow.

I shot my weekly Friday afternoon down at the range.
I took both my recurve and compound

Damn.
I don\'t know about you all but I don\'t like doing this.
First my recurve shot then my compound.

Good shooting!!!
I\'d say you have a bad, good problem :mg: :upthumb:

Finally got outside shooting with the new arrows yesterday. The nice weather has been great, but it\'s been consistently windy at our place. Yesterday the wind was a bit more calm, so spent some time practicing. After a few groups, I shot this one at 30 yards:

I was pretty happy with that, but figured I\'d continue to shoot and try to replicate it. Next group had a flier, so not quite as tight. But the next group...

I went up to my target and only saw two arrows. Looking at the target, one of the arrows was sticking through the back. Needless to say I haven\'t been thrilled with this Yellow Jacket target...this isn\'t the first time an arrow has gone through to the fletching and I actually had an arrow go completely through the target at 20 yards prior to this. Anyway, I try to push the arrow back out the front of the target...and it starts pushing one of the other arrows out! Yes, my first Robin Hood...

Not thrilled about ruining a new arrow, but I was still pretty happy :D I wish I could have gotten a pic of the two arrows together, but since it pushed it through the target I wasn\'t able to. Here is a pic of the backside of the target. I think I might have to duct tape this thing up or something. Pretty sad considering I\'ve only had this target for less than two months.

Congrats on your first robin hood, Derek and I am sorry to hear about the target being junk!!!!!

I\'d say stay away from grouping now and pick separate dots!!!! You\'re gonna be a killer with that thing.
Great choice in arrows too. I loved my 340 XT hunter gold tips.

Yeah, I thought I was safe shooting groups at 30 yards...guess I\'ll have to stretch that out a bit. I decided to shoot at the center since I\'ve shot the heck out of the outside dots and that\'s where I\'ve been getting arrows penetrating too deep or going through the target.

Derek,
Great shooting!

Try standing on the target and stomping on it on both faces. In addition, the crossbow targets holds up a little better.

Also, replacing FP tips when they get banged up will help. A FP that is bent on the tip will grab the target\'s stuffing when removing the arrow.

I keep a log (paper) of my shooting because my memory isn\'t great. My log lines have these data points:
Date/Time Location (Outdoor Range#) - weather:sunny/cloudy/rain, wind (mph & gusts); distances; target types; \"troubles\" with my shooting; body condition (bow shoulder hurting); What was worked on: range estimating, sighting in, form, shooting position: kneeling, standing.

Sample:
2-11-16 @ 4:30 pm IL - 1st lesson; recurve RH & LH; both eyes open; can do either LH or RH.

2-13-2015 @ 1 pm OS - sunny, wind 8 mph; messed up sight - 10 yard sight in; Shots low; Bow shoulder inflamed; Dropping bow arm.
30 arrows in a row, no breaks.

Legend
IL=Indoor Lesson
OS=Outdoor Static Range

Nice shooting Derek. Glad it is going so good for you already. It really does help starting out with good equipment. :upthumb:

Man that is a bummer about the target already. Mine is just a yellow jacket cover. Don\'t remember the name but it has strips of fabric rather than stuffing witch helps.

I cant wait to get some time to set up a new target range at the new place!

You can set up for longer shots now and not worry about hitting any school kids. :upthumb:

Got out and fired about 100 arrows today. Trying to get those broadheads to hit where my field tips are. Getting closer...still working on my grip. The good news is that I was getting some great groups at 40 yards today. Ruined some fletching too... Someday I\'ll learn to quit shooting groups and fire at different targets

Got my bow all tuned up and ready for turkey hunting today. Let\'s just say that it has been a real learning experience. I got my Bullheads shooting awesome to 20 yards but past that they were iffy. The arrows I am using on them would not work past 30 yards with field tips. I\'m shooting full length Axis 340s with 4 inch vanes for the bullheads.

My regular Axis 400s are shooting field tips and rages awesome out to 50 yards. I have no idea why this is but it\'s working good so I\'m not changing anything.

Rage at 50 yards.

Good work everyone! Francis, I think the turkeys in your hunt area are in trouble!

I was like Dan and shot from 20 to 60 today. I am working on remodeling my aunt\'s bathroom and was pretty tired when I went to the range last night and didn\'t shoot too well. I went out this morning and rectified that!
