It\'s a snowy day so I thought I would do some gear repair.

Here is one helpful tool to repair thick or tough material

The \'Awl for All\'
<!-- m --><a class=\"postlink\" href=\"http://awlforall.com/merchant2/index.html\" onclick=\"window.open(this.href);return false;\">http://awlforall.com/merchant2/index.html</a><!-- m -->

I have had mine for many many years.
It is in my gear box when I go on hunts.

Today I put heavier straps on my fanny pack.
It\'s not fast, but it\'s a strong repair, fix or reinforcement.

It would make a great stocking stuffer! :)

Thanks Brad. This is just what I have been looking for. I have some repair work I need to do and it\'s to thick for a regular needle. Just ordered one.

Back to my fanny pack.
I just got it off Camofire.
I made this nice modification to it

I added a couple straps so I can carry a rain jacket or extra layer.
Took me about 30 min

Very nice ... you\'ll use that a lot.

x2! Now you just need a way to carry water. My fanny pack has water bottle holders, but they are far enough back that they are difficult to reach, so I recently started using one of these. They are military issue and have the loops and snaps to go on their packs or vest. I just use it to slide through the strap on my pack and it hangs off my hip. As you can see, it fits a bottle of water perfectly!

The main intent of my fanny pack is for WT tree stand hunting.
I only walk 200-400 yds and climb a tree so carrying water isnt really an issue.

I may use it to go on a scouting venture, but I can put a plastic water in the pouch, just enough for a \'recon\' trip :)

When I elk hunt, the fanny pack is in the bottom of my daypack.
That way, when I go back to butcher one, I just grab the fanny pack and the pack frame!

Another project came up so I thought I would share. My son came from college and his sole on his Oregon boot had come apart.
So out comes the repair.

First I cleaned the inside of the soles and then put contact cement in there. Let it dry and then clamped together for a few min.

Then I got out my sewing awl and stitched between the lugs of the sole and up thru the upper sole.
Made a few loops and then tied it off on top. Did this in 5 places across the toe

Depending on what material you are sewing, sometimes it helps to wax the needle and use waxed thread.
Waxed dental floss works too

Thanks Brad. First thing I\'m fixing are the straps one my pop up blind bag.

I did it once with a needle and thread and it did not last very long and it was not fun doing it. Had to use a pliers to push and pull it thru.
