Do I shoot the first legal elk I see and have an opportunity or wait?

I passed on a small bull the first night of my hunt last year because I was a decent 5x5 earlier in the day. Spent the next few days trying to find the 5x5 and ended up not filling my tag. After that I determined that I am going to be shooting the first legal elk I have a chance at. I may change my tactics in the future but for now I'm no trophy hunter and love elk meat too much to pass on anything legal.

Shoot! Sometimes I even rather have a calf. I've done the whole pass on elk for the first few days. Didn't end good. I feel the first few days are the most elk you'll see there because you will spread your scent all around.

Never had a chance to pass on one.  I always shot the first chance I got.  And have only got three with my bow in the past 10 years.  To many factors  for a guy to miss out.  Take the shot.

By all means shoot. Never know if tomorrow will be as blessed as today
