Do you really need gortex boots for archery season?

I recently treated my goretex boots with this solution - mineral spirits/silicone

It works good!
Yes, they smell for a day or two, but I left my boots outside, then rinsed them off. All ok.
When sprayed with a hose, the water beads right off

Yea I did. I may even do my boat cover using the same method
